Slight aroma but couldn’t get too much out of it (hot as hell in the tasting room), better than the emerald Irish ale, but with more hops

Eugene, Or - on tap at the brewpub. Medium amber pour, off-white head, slight lacing. Pretty much a neutral aroma with a touch of toffee. Flavor has some brief citrus notes, a bit of nuttiness and some sweet caramel notes in the back end. Thick enough mouthfeel.

Meh, this is the most average beer I’ve had in a minute. Looks pretty good, tastes too watery though. The hops don’t really stand up and I just feel it’s a weak representation of the style. This isn’t a bad beer however, just a bit boring.

A very decent red, good body and aroma of roast malts and body with a decent balance of bitter.

The Raging Rhino was indeed red, a little brown too. It was decent, middle of the pack for Steelhead.

Tasted on 1/23/11 on draft at Steelhead Irvine. Pours clear amber orange with a thin off-white head that gradually recedes to leaving a thin collar of lace. The nose is toffee and caramel malt with lightly bitter vegetal hops. The flavor is the exact same as the nose, starting with the toffee and caramel, an interesting citrus flavor on the mid-palate, and lightly bitter and vegetal hops on the back. The body is light with lively carbonation and a medium toffee and lightly bitter finish.

A: The pour is a dark amber (perhaps copper) color with a finger of off-white head. S: Some citrus hop character to the nose to begin, but this is more on the malty side of red ales. A fair amount of toffee, caramel, and bread, with a touch of acidity. T: The flavor starts off (and continues on) with toffee, for the most part. It’s not terribly sweet, and there’s not really any bitterness either. Perhaps a hint of floral hops. M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation. D: Another standard brewpub style that seems to be done poorly much of the time. Not quite as bad as some, but not a beer I’d really want again.
