22-jan-2011. 50cl bottle at beer tasting. Pretty dull beer with almost no head. The nose is faint, with notes of fruits. Flavour is pretty OK, quite sweet. The finish is very short, and very faint. Overall this is not really a beer I’d recommend.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KnutAlbert (4386) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 22, 2010
Golden beer, slightly hazy, fimr white head. Not any strong aroma. Peaches, oranges, rhubarb, refreshing beer with long lingering sourness. Not the most sophisticated, perhaps, but a very decent beer.

Golden straw clear as day sports a surprising amount of carbonation, but then I was also the first to pop her 750ml corked bottle-conditioned goodness. Little surprise there. Her doughy white head fades into a ringlet to make way for an equally delightful doughy nose. Yeasty and doughy with honeycomb in the background, a thick presence leads into apricots and nectarines steeped just right in syrup; not too much nor too little. Their skins snap in the back of each snuff and as much as I could take in her rich nose, I’m thirsty. Thick, doughy, and yeasty, she weighs heavy on my palate with a generous helping of steeped apricots, peaches, and nectarines. As I chew through her doughy body, I am surprised to find my palate slowly drying into a finish of brown spices. The Steenbrugge Blonde comes very close to personifying “liquid bread”. Each cellar temperature quaff revels in doughy white breads, sweet and sticky fruits, a dry finish, and lingering spices. Delightful. I’d love to pair her with a fruit torte or parfait for an afternoon of lazy beer+food pairing indulgence.
Positive first impressions are always reassuring. I still have a few other Steenbrugge selections to taste my way through, and if all are like the Blonde, she will be all play and no work.
