Strong, malty aroma has a firm fruity note and a hint of cloves. Pours a dark, somewhat transparent chestnut with a thick and fine-bubbled light tan head. Well-rounded malty, fruity flavor has hints of cloves, caramel and woody hops and just a nip of alcohol. Smooth texture has good, firm body and some fizz, leaving a malty finish that has touches of caramel and cloves. Gotta love them monks.

Nice Belgian dubbel beer. Sweet body of yeast and malt, choco and brown-ish I think. Has some dark fruits and herbs.

The winner is the aroma, strong dark sugar and nuts, but unfortunately not so strong in flavour. It has a nice head though, flavours might come through if you let it warm.

Bottle 0,33L. Clear, dark brown/red colour with creamy, light brown head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel and yeasts. Slightly sweet flavor with fruity taste, turns into moderate bitter finish with long lasting aftertaste. Full body with smooth mouthfeel and oily texture. Pretty good.

Chocoladebruine kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt zoetig, kers, chocolade. Smaakt fris, zoet, iets mout. Prima dubbel.

330 ml bottle bought at Craftissmo in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

Cloudy hazy rubybrown colour with thin trace of yeast sediments; Half finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with notable small carbonation; Light aroma of malt, with vanilla, sugar, light banana, caramel, light orange peels, Bel yeast and light spices; Mid to light sweet taste of malt, with sharp spikes of metallic, banana oil, caramel, light molasses, hint of citrus peels, light Bel yeast, light herbs and faint grass; Mid to light body, thin and slick palate; Mouth feel is pretty thin-bodied dark ale, initially muted for a couple of seconds before a rush of awkward and chemical-like tastes including banana oil, metallic and citrus-peels. Sweetness is very low as it warms, and all other tastes like Bel yeast, gruit and herbal are pretty lightweight. Weird… Hoppiness / gruitiness is orange peels and light spicy nose, citrus-like peels, and fairly light herbal taste. Minimal bitterness, just light herbal finish; Fairly dry after taste. Very easy to mouth.

Comments: This one feels like a Dubbel experiment gone off the rail - thin body, good looking colour, head and lacing, smallish nose, awkward and chemical-ish ester taste, Bel yeast and the advertised gruit are just small touch. Not quite a failure, but I am not impressed. Won’t try again.
