Keg. Appearance- light, straw, very cloudy, foamy white head. Aroma- fruity, lots of apple, wheat, malts. Taste- more fruitiness, spiced apple, smooth, malty, hint of sugar. Quite nice.

Witbier in the Steenbrugge abbey beer range, launched in 2008 after the Steendonk project with Moortgat was abandoned. Creamy, snow white head, cloudy yellow blonde colour; wheaty, coriander, lemon peel, cinnamon, bit creamy mouthfeel, dry spiciness, refreshing. Stereotypical Hoegaarden clone, though.

The fact that I’ve had to add this and the Wit was a surprise... 0.33l bottle at the Hopdevil in Zagreb. So, I’ve had the Blond before this one, which was dull and I was actually looking forward to this one, I mean, there’s bound to be some taste in the Wit. At least from coriander. The pour was promising. Unfiltered, a nice murky yellow colour with a small head that went away fast. More or less, true to style. And then I went to smell it and I discovered to my dismay that it was all too true to the range. Nothing. Even worse than the Blond. I’ve strained and strained and the only thing I’ve found was some extremely weak spice. Though that might be my sense of smell rebelling and inventing something just to stop me from repeating the process again. The taste. Now, you have the rest of the range, which are imo basically fine, but all too watered down examples of their respective styles and then you have the average crappy light beer and you have this. Heck, I’ve had bottled water with more character than this. At first I’ve managed to find, to my surprise, water. And then, some more water. WATERHEADS REJOICE! And then... some weak weak acidity (and the audience went "Awww..."). Maybe some fruitiness. And maybe I’m imagining things... no... when it got a bit warmer, there was something, but let’s just call that "faint sweetness" shall we. Ok, I guess one could claim that that weak acidity belongs to some faint agrumey taste, but that’d just be an insult to those that really do possess a "faint agrumey taste". Faint & background take a whole new meaning with this bad boy. Ok. I’m being a bit negative. Let’s find something positive. Umm.... the mouthfeel isn’t unpleasant? Yes! Correct! Ok... I’ll cut it out. All in all, the dullest beer I’ve had in a while and the dullest beer I’ve had coming from Belgium. Really hoping I’ve had a "bad bottle" or something. The Blond got a "why?". This gets a "WHY?!?"

BOTTLE 25 CL. Look: cloud pale straw, small white head. Aroma: sweet fruit/banana, wheat tartness. Taste: light fruit sweetness, quite tart and spitzy, light clove. Crisp body. Decent.

23/VIII/14 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ my parents’ place - BB: 9/III/16 (2014-936)

Cloudy pale light beige beer, small irregular white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: spicy, lots of coriander, sweet, sugary, very floral, banana, orange candy. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish start, lemony, pretty sweet and sugary, unpleasant kind of sourness, banana. Aftertaste: more banana, pretty sweet, sugary, soft spiciness, bit nasty sourish touch, overripe banana. Meh.

cloudy golden colour, some off-white head, which disappears quickly; aroma and taste of citruses, bready-wheaty notes, some coriander and banana - a bit like a German weizen and not a typical Belgian white

Flaska från Beernavigator. Disig smutsgulvätska, snabbt försvinnande skum. Relativt stiltypisk, blommig parfym, jäst, citrus, vete och kryddor i doften. Lätt kropp, lite tung parfymerad smakbild som saknar lite friskhet, lätt citrusbeska och kryddighet. Godkänd

Drinking from tab. Citrus in the aroma. The half unclear beer has a medium white head. A watery, citrus taste. Lemonade. Medium carbonated.

On tap. Pours a hazy lemon yellow with a tightly packed white head and light carbonation. Aromas are light but some lemon and coriander come through. Taste is mainly juicy citrus at the front with a little banana and coriander in the mid-palate. Lemon and pepper spice at the back end leading to a crisp finish. Refreshing enough but pretty standard for its style.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle corked and caged poured into a weizen glass. Pours hazy golden with small white head. Aroma is spritzy malt, light body, lower carbonation, and pretty good medium bubble lacing. Taste is simple, spritzy, light citrus, some light apple, and hints of herbs. Really sessionable, but lacking in flavor compared to others in the style, liked it pretty well.
