COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly known as Stegmaier Summer Stock Lager.
Stegmaier Summer Stock Lager is a straw-colored traditional pilsner beer with golden highlights and a creamy white head. Its perceived citrus nose and supreme balance of malt and hops have essentially made this beer terrific thirst quencher for summer. It’s crisp, clean and refreshing.

On tap at Barley Creek Brewing. Wife ordered it and when I heard her say Stegmaier I tried to yell "NO!" but part of me wanted to see what it was like. I gave her some quick history and said if it sucks we’ll just order something else. I was surprised. Quite surprised! Bright clear golden yellow with a firm white head. Aroma was noble hops (I’d guess Saaz due to the pepper aromas and flavors) with a clean malt profile. Flavor was dead on for what I like in a Pils. Dry, crisp, strong carbonation, sharp, hoppy with a nice even flavor profile. I’d love to see how the bottle compares or try it side by side with one of my regular go to Pils (Sly Fox or Troegs). I’m curious how the draft differs from the bottle and if they’ve refined this one since the first reviews.

Clear gold with a tall white head. Scent is slightly sour grain and lemon. Taste is slightly dusty lemon, grains. Bland, half-sweet fruits...watery. Flat. Not good.

Light and fluffy, and with a surprising amount of actual Pils flavor. Still rather domestic and boring, however, as cheap and somewhat sweet adjuncts eventually punctuate the beer. Tastes okay really cold, and would make a good beer to gulp after mowing the lawn.

Pours mostly clear medium yellow with a quickly falling white head. Grainy aroma with a touch of wet dog. The flavor is not much of anything good or bad, just no flavor. It does have a nice dry finish however.

Bottle, labeled "Summer Pils - German Style" ... pours crystal clear, moderately carbonated, with a sticky but thin white head. Golden through and through. Drinks with the musty, bready biscuit essence of a "good ol’" American macro-lager, rather than a crisp German variety. Musty even. (#4748, 8/26/2012)

seems to me like a totally adequate pilsener with a pepper like hop character and a nice golden malt and wheat aroma. initial hit of fruit with just a bit of sweetness. pale golden color with white cap and full flavored with a bit of caustic near the bitter finish typical in the German style.

Schroppfy (2360) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, Ohio, USA - JUN 5, 2012
I like the aroma - I’m not feeling citrus exactly in the aroma, but instead a soft funkiness and some flowers and pencil shavings. The flavor is bready, slightly-to-moderately bitter, moderately sweet, a little sticky-palated and soapy (but some slipperiness is part of style here; I’m drinking something called German-style, not Summer Stock on the label, same 5.1% ABV). Good, but too sweet and doesn’t hold together well (chemicals taste). Head doesn’t last in a sort of bad way. I think the rating here is a little low.

Nearly clear (wisps of cloudiness) medium golden with a persistent head and light lace. Looks good. Taste is very light malt with a big dose of sour citrus. The finish brings in just a touch of bitters. Overall, probably satisfactory on a hot day, otherwise, not much more than a nice drink to look at.

Bottle. Perfume and cherry malt aroma. Medium yellow color with moderate head. Sweet cheap perfume and cherry flavor. Light herbal hops finish. No.

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a thick, fast-dying, ugly lace leaving white stain. Aroma of malt, cardboard, funk, yeast, dog food and not much else that’s pleasant. Light-bodied; Funky malt flavour with a bit of cardboard, some light fruits and a gross sweetness. Aftertaste shows some odd funky notes, stale malt, yeast and bad sugars. Overall, nothing too pleasant - not a good beer showing any good qualities from start to finish. Drinkable, but barely. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s In Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled at home home in Manassas, Virginia on 05-August-2011.
