Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish.

33 cl bottle from a friend. Pours yellow with a white head. Grainy taste and aroma. I enjoyed this one with some crisps and it worked well.

330ml bottle Pale yellow color with a nice white head that leaves only a few specks of lacing. Aroma is light grains and hoppy. Taste is malty, grainy and light sweetness with a bit hop bitterness. Low carbonation with a light body. Surprised!

Excellent aroma, and modestly drinkable. My first beer from New Zealand (most likely).

Pours a straw yellow with foamy white head. Grass and malt aromas with a slight hop note. Grass, malt and hop flavors. Decent carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.

Bottle and Draught. This is a thin and simple lager. If you are out for a night on the town this is the way to go in Aukland.

330ml Bottle from The Cave, Glasgow (£1):
Corn and lager malt aroma that has a touch of grassy hops and a skunky bitterness to follow this up. There was some grain too and a very small hint of sweetness but other than that there wasn’t a whole lot going on really.
Clear, pale straw colour with a foamy, quite thin white head on top that holds pretty well.
Bland with some corn and cheap malts. There is some grain and a hint of sweetness with some grassy hops that makes it come out a lot like the nose but other than that there isn’t anything to say about this one. Not offensive just bland and basic.
Light, smooth and clean taste. The beer is pretty bland with some touches of sweetness and as a result of this the beer is quite easy to drink. There is some bitterness in the crisp, dry finish.

As expected to be honest, a basic and cheap lager that isn’t quite as bad as some of the mass produced ones I’ve tried over the years. It’s not great but it is by no means the worst and it was pretty easy to drink. Definitely not one worth picking up but not quite drain pour either thankfully.

Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow, light density of small particles. Aroma is lightly malty (cereal), lightly hoppy (herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, husky.

Bouteille 330ml. (2005)

Golden lager with a decent white bubbly head that dissipates to a thin layer of foam quickly. Aroma is grassy; very typical lager nose, perhaps a touch brighter than many other lagers. Taste is a decent balance of malty sweetness and grassy bitterness. Thicker, creamier mouth-feel than I expected from a lager. Decent brew. I’ll actually finish it. :)

Wow, I don’t remember steinie tasting this fresh. I remember hating it when I was 14 or so and it came in white tins. Then I started liking it when I was late teens, but it was too expensive to drink a lot of it. Now I can’t help but compare this to all the other stale, corny, skanky-arsed, flavourless dribbles of piss that make up the mainstream beer market. And I realise this actually does have flavour. And freshness. It has a bit of bitterness, but now, at the end of my first tumbler, it’s finishing a bit too sweet, but what the hell. I never thought I’d say this, but this is good (for a macro).
