Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish.

Light retention with minimal lacing. Smells of biscuit and grass. Slight skunk odor. Tastes like grass and has a left skunk note on my tongue. Very crisp and easy to drink though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Originally rated on 7/18/08. Curse of the green bottle strikes again! As soon as i opened this one i was hit by the skunkiest smell ever from a beer. Upon pouring a standard looking lager, medium carbonation with a small head. Flavor was rather bland, i wont buy one of these again.

How can anyone who takes beer seriously put it in a green bottle when they KNOW it will skunk as soon as it sees the light of day. Especially a lightly flavoured beer like a lager. Should be a criminal offence. Anyway - I remembered this much more fondly than I do now after tasting again. Simple lager with clean crisp finish when it hasn’t gone off in the bottle. Too hit and miss and too simple to waste time on having again. Lawn mowing beer at best.

750 ml bottle. Maybe bottled on 27/05/15. From a store at the hotel lobby. Honolulu, HI.
Clear golden color with a small white head. Earthy and somewhat dark malty aroma. The flavor is malt, earth, mild grassy dryness and rice. This is like a tropical country lager. Worse than the Miller Lite I just had.

330ml bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a pale yellow color forming a big and light creamy white head with good retention and tons of lingering and soapy lacings left in the glass. Strong notes of sweet pale malts in the nose. Grassy and citrus hops. Cardboard. Slightly sweet upfront mouth. Again, very malty, biscuity and crispy. Medium hops bitterness. Grassy and citrus hops profile. Hints of cardboard and resin. Light body and medium carbonation. Grassy aftertaste. Average drinkability.

Can on my Air NZ flight. Pours fizzy gold with a white head. Clean and light pale malts, very little sweetness, low bitterness, relatively clean finish for a mass produced lager. Decent.

Ultra clear yellow with a middling white head. Aroma is rotting leaves and unclean armpits, with a hint of nutmeg. Flavor is rather bland, there is a hint of something fruity in the finish, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Overall, this is a boring beer trying to be a Heineken replacement. It’s drinkable, but I’ll avoid it in the future.

Give me a reason not to love this beer, it’s the best beer in the world, my fridge would be fully stocked if it wasn’t so expensive. The smell right off the top is so pleasant.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2015 I’m rating this for old time’s sake, as I drank a fair few kegs worth of this as a young and naive man. Slightly more interesting that the usual generic international lagers, but only slightly. Definitely sessionable, if you are still young and naive and can afford to waste half of the following day, then this is as good as any. A touch of grass and a taste of bread and hay

Pours clear pale gold. Lots of CO2. Head is huge with thick creamy lacing. Aroma of light grass, big lemon/lime and pale malts. Taste is lemon zest, pale malts and grass/citrus hops that are emphasized by a lot of carbonation biting the palate. Mouthfeel is light yet oily. Finish is a little bitter. Overall.... pretty good for a "green bottle".
