Pours to a watery yellow body with a thin foamy white head. The aroma is 100% skunk with a light grain. The flavor is silage (not the good kind() and skunky hops. Very blah! Chock full of something and it’s not good. The palate is skunky and average at best.

Poured into a pint glass. Yellowish gold with a frothy white head that recedes quickly and leaves little lacing. Aromas of fusel alcohol and grain. Sort of pils malty base with a miniscule dash of noble hops. Dry water-cracker finish, lots of carbonation. There’s even a little bitterness at the back of the palate, although that may be a metallic note rather than a hop note. Not overtly adjunct-laden, which is nice. Not awful.

Thanks to Blake for bringing the bottle (sorta). Poured clear, brighter pale golden with a rather well-retained cap of white head. The aroma was impressive for the amount of skunkage going on in here.. even after 8 minutes.. some pale malts and some honey, but the skunk was ever-so-present. The flavor strayed from that a little bit, picking up some honey sweetness.. still carried through plenty of skunk. Lighter-bodied with adequate carbonation on the palate.. a bit tacky with too much skunk still. Not so good.

This beer always reminds me of the Big Island in Hawaii, where Steinlager is very prevalent. I enjoyed many there with ArmEd and our wives in the fall of 2006. Since then, it’s been a regular in the rotation, and I have never opened one without thinking of that trip. Pours a light to medium gold with a medium white head and excellent lacing. Aroma is hoppy, slightly skunky. Flavor is unique, with a good balance of crisp bitterness for a lager. Picture a Hawaiian sunset as you drink it - Mahalo!

[Bottle] Pours clear gold with a small whitish head. Aroma is lager yeast and a touch of skunk. Flavor is sweetish malt, only a hint of skunk. Somewhat sweet with a sweetish mouthfeel.

For some reason I really like the way it smelled when i took off the bottle cap. But after that it didn’t really have a smell to it, sad. Nothing about this beer impresses me. I just wanted to try a New Zealand beer.
