COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish.

Test vom 9.3.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,8,10,8,12,8 - 8,80

I can remember 15 years ago this was a good selling beer and much better tasting. For years in PA, we couldn’t get this beer. Then, when we were able to get it again, maybe about 5 years ago, it just didn’t taste the same. I don’t know if the recipe changed, or if it’s brewed elsewhere. It’s worth a try, nothing great, but not bad either.

Well it’s a macro pils. Imagine a good imaginative pils with plenty of grassy hops diluted in to a more mainstream product, losing it;s character and charm, replaced with an everyman drinkability. Bland but drinkable and probably a step up from most pale lagers, but still pretty damn boring.

330ml bottle. Light straw, white head. Clean, malty, citrusy nose, faint hops. Dry, light body. Clean, citrusy taste, quite thin, light maltiness. (2011-03-01)

Great carbonation, surprising flavor for a lager. Pretty good overall I’d say.

There was a time, in my youth, when I thought this was awesome. Exported around the world because of its goodness. I don’t know what I was thinking. It now pours a thin head, which disappears. It used to look like straw, it now looks like urine. What used to be a hoppy aroma is now just skunk. It used to be reasonably priced. Dare I say it smells cheap? Sweetish taste, little bit biscuity, but has an underlying funk which makes it questionable. No recognisable aftertaste. Once was inspiring, now brewed by an accountant and flogged by Madison Ave? Let’s recall it.

New Zealand’s finest lager eh? Compared to what? I can’t decypher the best by date, there are 3 different codes on the bottle and a completely different one on the box, which is paper luckily because the bottles are green. Pours into my mug with a huge, firm and mountainous white head that rises high above the glass rim without spilling over the sides. THe beer is an extremely filtered looking pale yellow/gold. Smells fresh, not skunky, yay it is fresh! The smell is very clean and malty, with no real sign of hops, just some bready malt. The taste continues what the scent started, this brew is one of the maltiest lagers I’ve had, if not THE maltiest. There is a slight spicy hop bitterness in the end, but it is ever so subtle. The malt dominates this brew in an interesting, though perhaps quirky way. It is like drinking liquid sugar malts. Overall it is unique to the category but nothing very special, it was only 12$ for a 12 pack so I guess it is a pretty good deal for a cheap alternative if you are in a pinch. Typical green beer taste. little skunky. watery. it is refreshing tho and the six pack box is at least keeping some of the light pollution out. an okay buy from trader joes for 5.99
