not good considering its suposed to be nz’s premium export lager. a sharp aftertaste with a guaranteed hangover.

Bottle -- Pours a pale yellowy gold with a few bubbles and a small sudsy head. Not much head retention and a little lacing The aroma, which hardly jumps out at you, is of hops. Crisp and bitter in the mouth but not a lot of follow on. Quite pleasant, but nothing to write home about. I’m thinking it would go down well with pizza -- but what beer doesn’t? :-)

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2008 Bought this beer from my local grocery store to see what it was like. Came in a fairly stylish bottle so I had high hopes. Poured, it has the look of aerated apple juice, and smells like something I could have gotten a 6-pack of for half the price.
Wheaty and sour, this tastes more like vinegar than the beer it claims to be.

Now I know why there are not many famous Kiwi beers.... It started out on the right track (fairly clean), but then it slammed me with a sour finish. This is my last dontation to the Kiwi’s for this lager; unless it tastes better when I’m there...maybe it just didn’t travel well? However, based on some of the other reviews, maybe it’s just a poor attempt at a lager.

330ml bottle @ the father in laws - Pours crisp golden, reasonable milky head that clings to the side of glass. Dry nose, reasonably bitter up front but doesn’t really develop to anything. Malty rather than hoppy finish. I don’t get ’skunky’ like others - perhaps it doesn’t travel well?

Blah! I had yet to try a New Zealand beer so I said why not? After witnessing the aroma I said "why?". This tastes like Corona. Smells like Corona. I am rating it higher than my Beer Enemy Number 1 because it is from New Zealand and doesn’t have the bad aftertaste. The pour looks like a Bud but smells worse with no head. Taste is...well...you know...Corona. I hope when the hobbits went to that bar they weren’t drinking pints of this.

I found this one quite impressive, very clean taste and finish compared to many lagers. Reminds me of Kronenbourg. Way to go New Zealand.
