Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Nov 20, 2005 I actually used to do promotions for this beer, when I was younger, and didn’t even"Like" beer, I would play it up as a great import, Hey, as a student you need to earn money! Its pretty much like Heineken, skunked before it even reaches the States, I’d like to try it on tap, But have never seen it! The bottles never seem to be very good; Hell, I’d even like to try it in a can. A lackluster beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Nov 18, 2005 12oz bottle pours golden with a sudsy white head that stays pretty well and laces down the glass. Aroma is skunky grains and some corn. Flavor is those same light grains with a rather big grassy hop bite on the back of the sip. The grainy taste is much like a macro but the hop bite makes it a little better but not much. Palate is light and airy. I’ll pass on any more chances to drink this one. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Nov 17, 2005 Bottled. Well, a little rate whoring to pass the time to #700 and fill in another country. Well, opens with a rather oxydized and somewhat skunky smell (green bottle? hello?). Pours pale gold Sudsy white head retreats, leaving clumps of bubbles on the glass. I don’t think I’ve had anything with Bullet hops before, and this is, well, distinctive. Big bitterness with a side of grass that over balances the weak hops. As yet another macro type beert, at least it’s a bit different, but just not a very pleasant experience. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 14, 2005 330 ml bottle. What am I doing rating a crappy NZ macro? Umm, newly available in Vermont and I’m psycho about that....anyway, it pours very, very light gold/straw, continuous bubblin in the body with large globes covering the top, surmounted by a large fizzy immediately decaying white head...very slight skunkiness in the nose, but some decent grassiness underlying, hints of caramel and corn make it reasonably appealing for an industrial lager...the body amazingly enough does show some green hoppiness, though this character dovetails into a harsh metallic/mineral character at the finish, and there’s only a slight corn maltiness to relieve the bitterness. This is certainly better than many American macros, but the finish really kills it and it’s not worth drinking unless you need a NZ beer and it’s all you can get. BeerMountie (106), Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada Nov 5, 2005 Bottle purchased several months this past summer while in New England. Not overly impressed with this beer. Thin white head. Very strong aroma of grains. Strong taste of hops. Would not go looking for this beer again. thelandstander (46), Davis, California, USA Nov 4, 2005 I bought this a week after I turned 21 and my friend and I played drunken darts at my house on a weeknight. The beer wasn’t that good though. gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Nov 1, 2005 Had this one bottled. This certainly wasn’t the worst beer I’ve had, and for my first New Zealand beer, I was modestly impressed. Beats the pants off of the swill they brew in Canada for Fosters, that’s for sure. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2005 Served in a plastic cup that made it look all the more like a urine speciman, this pale amber brew offered little or nothing. The aroma was too faint to make much out of. Some hops and light malt, perhaps. Watery texture and blah fizziness. The flavor was weak and watery. Just not a very good brew.
