COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish.

pours a clear yellow with a thin foamy head which left excellent lacing. Has a very nice malty taste a bit bitter and dry feeling left on your palate.

Somebody actully brought a bottle of this stuff to my homebrew club meeting last night. It was a bit skunky, but there was a big hop aroma. Pretty bitter with a quick dry finish. Pretty typical.

Pours a pale yellow with high carbonation and thick white head. Aroma is all hops. Taste is mostly barely with only minor hoppiness and a crips watery finish.

12 oz bottle poured a very pale yellow, active carbonation with a thick pure-white head that leaves spotty lacing on the shaker. Smells very hoppy and slightly skunky in aroma. The taste is just barely malted with a crisp, yet seemingly watered down delivery in both taste and palate. The aftertaste is skunky if anything, but really barely noticeable. A very plain but clean beer.

Bottled. Finally I got around to taste the real NZ brewed stuff. There’s some grassy hops up fron and it has a decent, rounded buttery malt profile. The bitterness is low, but for a mass market beer it’s pretty solid.

This was actually a fairly solid brew. Cakey malt aroma, with no skunking. Decent mouthfeel. An almost walnut quality to the taste, light sweetness. Good mouthfeel. Lightly sweet finish. This one surprised me, and I find the low ratings unsubstantiated.

Très fade, pas impressionnate comme bière. heureusement je ne l’ai pas achèté. Est-ce que la Nouvelle-Zéland à mieux que ça?

I would drink copious amounts of this beer with my fellow Marines, and it brings back fond memories of summer days on the beach playing volleyball, body surfing, and enjoying ice cold beer. Suffice to say, I can’t get Steinlager that cheap these days, and I remember this beer tasting much better back in those carefree days. That being said, this is still a decent lager with some character and flavor. Steinlager pours to a deep golden color with a rocky white head that fades, and a very vibrant carbonation. The nose isn’t too remarkable, but there are subtle aromas of malt, and grassy/herby hop aromatics. The palate is lean with some crisp pale malt flavor and light touches of sweet maltiness. Steinlager finishes with some nice grassy/herby bitteress in a short and snappy bite. A nice trip down memory lane for me, and a decent lager. This is the type of beer that is suited for hot weather, and it is a refreshing beer to have if you plan on having a few. Worth giving a try, and I believe it will find a place in my beer fridge from time to time for sentimental purposes.
