From tap. Pours clear copper with almost no head. Aroma is grainy, malty, bread and corn. Taste light to medium sweet, light bitter, corn, grainy. Aftertaste is rather sweet with corn. Always the same problem: why do I drink a last beer at the hotel bar after having lots of excellent stuff over the day. I am always punished by awful brews like this.

On tap at Berties in Cowes. I mean, what do you expect from such a Lager than high carbo, bit of malt and some spruce or so ? Drinkable piwo with below than average aromas.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
On tap at Berties in Cowes. Pours out in a deep golden colour with low ehad and lively body. Aroma of hops and straw. Taste of bitter hops, wheat, flowers, grass, spruce and mild herbs. Thin and medium bitter finish. Lacks some body. Drinkable but not very nice.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Drunk as a pint from The Pig & Truffle bar, Welwyn Garden City. Fuller bodied and tastier than regular Artois. This is not a bad attempt in all honesty if a little grainy and while I found it rather dull, a buddy of mine who is a regular Stella drinker really enjoyed it, could even get a hint of the orange peel in the finish, bit odd that, kinda like the final drops of a pint of Hoegaarden meets dry adjunct lager. All in all OK and far better than any Carlsberg product I have had on draught.

Tap at the Hilton, Brindleyplace, Birmingham. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light yeast. The flavour is medium bitter with a light malt hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. An average lager.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap at Marco Pierre White, Birmingham Cube. Ordered because I’d never heard of it. The description mentions orange and coriander, which is unerringly inaccurate given this is startlingly lacking in coriander or orange. It’s not black either - more a dark amber. Refreshing. So is water though.

Tap in a London bar. Not much sign of the reverential puring ritual. Utterly tasteless, none of the usual wife beating edge, just tasted a bit soapy, hard to finish. Poor.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep gold pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is paper, light malt, and floral hops. Light malt flavor with the perfumy hops that may lean toward metallic. Light bodied and smooth.

Calling this Black is breach of Trades Descriptions, surely? It’s light amber, more like a lightly spiced Helles than regular Stella. Inoffensive and drinkable.
