Pours with a frothy, fat-one-finger thick, pale, actually nearly perfectly with colored head. The beer is a brilliantly clear, bright gold color. Aromas of sweet grain, grassy malt, faintly lemon-like and slightly herbal hop notes as well as a faint note of stale soda crackers. The aroma is fairly light, but seems clean overall.
This was served at about 40°F (5°C), which causes this well carbonated beer to have a peppery carbonic acid bite to it up front. Crisp, and clean up front with a biting bitterness that easily cuts through the light malt character here. The hop bitterness picks up a bit of herbal hop character to it as it moves towards the finish. The malt character starts out pretty dry and really nonexistent, but picks up a soft grain-like sweetness and a touch of cracker-like malt by the time one gets to the finish. This is very clean and at this temperature has not off flavors. Quite crisp and refreshing actually, but I’ll admit that when I am in need of crisp and refreshing I usually opt for water. This is certainly not a bad beer, if they had only used a quirky, Belgian yeast this might actually be quite tasty. gottalottaibu (242), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jan 21, 2008 yellowish pour with a big foamy head. has the skunk aroma. nothing offensive yet nothing really enjoyable either. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Jan 20, 2008 Lump this in with Becks, St Paulii, etc as an import that goes for a couple of dollars more but is nothing more than a BMC retread. Please do not confuse Pilsner Urquell with this beer as they are not even close to being the same beer even though they claim to be from Belgium and are usually the same price. Pours a light color gold with a non-lasting small head. Minimal aroma and taste. Just very bland Foxbush (452), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 20, 2008 Updated: Jul 22, 2008This was gift from Bob Archer, President of Blue Ridge Beverage Distributors. It is good lager. It has some bitterness at the finish. The color is a clear straw and modest head with lacing. This is good beer to enjoy on a hot evening on the back deck. troopie (848), USA Jan 18, 2008 Bottle. Poured pale gold with a thick white foamy head. Some skunk in the aroma, a reason why beer should not come in green bottles. Solid malty flavour. Maltish finish with a bit of bitterness. Genuine, it’s a pasteurised Euro macro-lager, but it’s a worthy example of the breed. pumpkinheart (63), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2008 Bottle into Stella-branded stem glass. Poured a decent 1.5 finger head, which is about the only thing to commend this brew. The color is a toxic yellow. The mouthfeel is almost a burning sensation that left me wanting to brush my teeth between sips. Very bitter with a noxious aftertaste. Described as skunky in the past and I see no reason to go against that assessment. Basically, this beer mocks the hipster doofus who favors it with each sip. The idea that some people think themselves advanced because they drink a Belgian beer when drinking Stella is sad, very sad. In the end, this beer embodies everything that kept me from drinking beer for years.
