2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle brought from Egypt by a colleague. Pours clear golden with stable white head. Clear aroma of yeast and less-than-seuperior malt, with some hoppy notes. Sweetish, estery flavour with malty notes and bitter, hoppy touches. Mild, etsery aftertaste. Drinkable and perhaps enjoyable on a hot summer’s day in Egypt but otherwise rather dull. Still, a valuable country tick.

Pale, clear, lively lager with a thick frothy head. Smell is a touch sour. Taste does have a slight citrusy twist but it’s very slight. It’s a fairly basic lager but in hot conditions it does the job when cold if you’re just looking for something crisp and refreshing.

Just returned home after a short business travel in Egypt, and therefore will rush to my first review of Egyptian beer. As expected, it was no big surprise to taste beers from this Muslim country that most serves soft drinks as Coca Cola, Sprite and Seven Up. Is it contrary to the juice is Egypt a wonderland with a large repertoire of virtually every imaginable fruit which I greatly appreciate about the breakfast.
Stella Lager is the beer you see most often in Egypt, but only in hotels and restaurants, because as mentioned before, the country is Muslim and therefore cost of beer in the hotels a little more than they do on the Danish restaurants. Stella is a lager with a white durable foam, moderately malty aroma and a comfortable hoppy bitterness in the end. It reminds a lot about Heinekens common lager, and the brewery is also part of Heineken, so it might explain the great similarity. It is quite a common thirst quenching and refreshing lager, but it should be for reasons other than Stella Lager who get a beer rater to travel to Egypt. The culture, history, and not least the food is definitely worth a visit - but not beer. It is quite ordinary and something similar can be found all over the world.

Bottle. Typical pale gold lager pour, with slight receding head. Faint hops, touch of wheat and corn. Not a lot going on in the taste or aroma, but it’s inoffensive and refreshing for an evening in Cairo. Kind of all I hope for with such lagers.

330ml can [Thanx Tim and Torsten!]. Clear golden colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, snow white head. Strawy, grassy, hoppy aroma, hints of corn and protein. Taste is dry, strawy, minimally soapy. grassy hoppy. Rather clean and straight.

Can brought back to UK by friends and consumed on a sunny English afternoon in vain attaempt to mirror Egyptian climate. Poured a clear light gold colour with a white head, quickly dissipating. Aroma is moderately malty and grassy. Moderate sweetness, with a metallic bitter finish. Thin lager texture. Had worse.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
As its twin with a bit less alcohol, Sakara, aromas of grainy malt and flowery noble hop, probably from oil extracts. Perfect appearance with abundant head for a 4% lager. The bitterness is not perfectly clean, tastes exactly like bitterness extract. Below this bitterness one can taste grainy maltiness. Dry finish. Some astringency from hop bitterness extract. Not as bad as the scores would suggest. The Brewer is doing an awesome job considering no real hops.
