Hoogstraten Poorter Pours dark Mahogany with a medium tan head. Good retention, but does not resemble its namesake. Aroma of raisins, a little metal, yeasty funk, and some some vanilla. Nice. Flavor is somewhat metallic. Very smooth flavor with a bubbly mouth. Notes of yeast, cried fruits and earthy malts.

A tasty beer but on the lighter side for spiciness. Would be excellent to blend with a barleywine. Smooth and easy to drink. Classic Belgian beer.

Poured from the very unique ceramic bottle. I really bought this to bottle my home brew in this bottle because it is so neat! Poured dark brown, with a decent head. Aroma is nice, roasted, and died fruit, reminded me of lagunitas brew. Flavour was disapointing, not bad, but not as delicious as Iíd hoped. Mouthfeel is thick and oily. Finishes with a overcarbonated/ cardboardy taste. Overall its OK to drink, and I may buy more, but mostly for the ceramic bottle.

A: The pour is a dark amber color with about a finger of off-white head. S: Lots of malty sweetness with a definite dark fruit aroma which consists mostly of plums, black cherries, and raisins. There is a mild roasted malt quality and some nice toffee, chocolate, and caramel. T: While the beer smells nice, there is a bit of a cardboard flavor to it. The sweetness is still there with plenty of toffee, chocolate, and caramel, along with the fruitiness. A mild to moderate roasted malt quality and a fair amount of yeast. M: Medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation. O: Smelled quite nice and tasted pretty good as well. Not a bad beer.

Aroma is smoky and chocolaty with yeast and caramel hints. It pours a dark chocolate brown that is opaque save at the edges and has a very thick, if not persistent, tan head - the sample I got fizzed like nobodyís business. Oh noes, wasted beer! Satisfying flavor is malty with smoky, chocolate and nutty tones and just a touch of caramel. Texture is quite fizzy, leaving behind a rather persistent tingle.

750 ml. flip top ceramic bottle. Pours a fluffy, rapidly collapsing, tiny bubbled, light beige head, over a clear dark amber (SRM 12) body...nose is dusty, musty, light toffee/caramel, bit of plum and raisin...taste is light malts with an astringent sharp herbal bite, finishing with a mild bitterness....mouth feel is on the light side, carbonation very high. This is a harsh, simple Belgian Ale. I wonder if the bottle was mishandled. BJCP 6/3/10/4/6

Deep mahogany reddish brown with a gigantic tan head that left good lace and a solid film. Caramel malt aromas were strong and accompanied by dark fruit like figs and dates. Buttery and caramel malt flavors up front with a sharp hops bite. Belgian yeast and nuttiness are also present. Medium to full body, nicely carbonated, buttery smooth mouthfeel, and a lingering caramel sweetness.

Hazy dark brown beer. Good off white head. Quite crisp for a porter, good sharp carbonation. Not bitterness or smokyness, just good smooth malt with a vague streak of marmite.

Big ceramic bottle under the "Hoogstraten" name. Pours a deep red with a medium head. The aroma has some molasses and fruit with a nice earthy maltiness. The flavor is deeply malty with some brown sugar and spicy hops. The beer is fruity enough and well balanced with a mild bitterness.

Dark with a light tan, and thick head. Faint chocolate aroma with some type of yeast aroma mixed in. Taste is a twangy, sour-like and roasted malt mix. It definitely has that Belgian twang to it. Itís very good, though the finish has some metallic hints to it. Iíll probably try this one again.
