Dark red color with creamy bubbly head. I was expecting something porter-like based upon the name but what I got instead was one of the most refined and flavorful dubbel-style brews I’ve had. There were flavors of grape, dark fruits, and a delicate sweetness that was not overpowering. There was heavy carbonation, something I prefer. Plus the ceramic bottle was pretty cool, too.

Dark ruby colour with a huge light brown head. Rich malty aroma and taste with notes of sweet fruits. Good beer.

This brew pours a dishwater brown color w/ an amber core. A full, semi creamy frothy head exposes itself upon release and sits there for a bit. Good head retention and the residual lacing is full and fluffy like a down comforter that covers like a canopy. Aromas are very Belgian w/ dark fruits and steak. Medium nectar w/ ample yet soft effers creating a creamy, cottonous texture. My first thoughts are, hmm a Belgian Porter ? Interesting but not so. Upfront this brew posseses great balance. Malts and hops dance together like a professional couple performing a Waltz. But this couple is not flambouyantly natured. The flavors are subdued and is not flavor dynamic at all. I do catch a glimpse of cocoa upfront, then some dark fruits, herbs, leather, and a drop of cola. The finish is bittered extensively and leaves my palate a bit parched. Overall: this brew is geared more towards the texture end of the spectrum. The hops balance out the malt componenet so thoroughly it leaves the brew tasteless in comparison with it’s peers. I suppose this would go well with a dish or two but I can vouch, it doesn’t marry well w/ Mexican food.

Dark Brown Color with Sandy Head. Dry Stale Malt ARoma. Very Carbonated. Subtle Flavor. Dark Malts on the Tongue...Very Light and Thin Bodied...Session Dark Ale. This Brew Tastes Like It Had Been Shelved in a Very Warm Room.

Was a little shocked at the intense hopps aroma and flavor, but I enjoyed it a lot. found two bottles at a liquor store in Indy, haven’t seen it since. After reading what everyone else had to say about this brew, I don’t think we were drinking the same beer! I enjoyed it, a little pricey though.

Ceramic swingtop 75cl bottle labeled Hoogstraten Poorter. Served in a snifter. Pours a crystal clear, dark red with a solid 1-finger, rapidly disappearing head. Aroma of lightly toasted malts and some caramel. Mouth-feel is medium, moderately creamy with some carbonation sting. Flavor is distinctly dry with a focus on roast malts. Finish is dry, slightly bitter, almost but not quite astringent.

Poured from a nice ceramic jug. Dark, mahogany and chestnut body and medium-sized off-white head. Slightly metalllic flavor with hints of robust malts and chocolate. Sort of a nut brown but less sweet than dry. Grassy flavor from nice yeast-hop balance. Decent beer. Definitely worth the try. Thanks, Chris.
