2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 YourDarkLord (1800) - Urbana, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2004
Ruby amber with a beige head. Yeasty. Coffee nose. Sweet and fruity. Medium body, slightly astringent, creamy. Flavor was slighty sweet, nutty. Not at all impressive. Doesn’t rank with other porters I’ve had. Disappointing. Nice bottle, though.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 GreatLibations (1771) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - MAY 21, 2007
This brew pours a dishwater brown color w/ an amber core. A full, semi creamy frothy head exposes itself upon release and sits there for a bit. Good head retention and the residual lacing is full and fluffy like a down comforter that covers like a canopy. Aromas are very Belgian w/ dark fruits and steak. Medium nectar w/ ample yet soft effers creating a creamy, cottonous texture. My first thoughts are, hmm a Belgian Porter ? Interesting but not so. Upfront this brew posseses great balance. Malts and hops dance together like a professional couple performing a Waltz. But this couple is not flambouyantly natured. The flavors are subdued and is not flavor dynamic at all. I do catch a glimpse of cocoa upfront, then some dark fruits, herbs, leather, and a drop of cola. The finish is bittered extensively and leaves my palate a bit parched. Overall: this brew is geared more towards the texture end of the spectrum. The hops balance out the malt componenet so thoroughly it leaves the brew tasteless in comparison with it’s peers. I suppose this would go well with a dish or two but I can vouch, it doesn’t marry well w/ Mexican food.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 kwoeltje (1765) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - FEB 10, 2004
Hazy light-medium brown with hints of red. Quickly fading head. As noted by others, this isn't really a porter. It is a Belgian brown ale. Slightly sweet malt flavors. Like many Belgian ales, a noticable yeast flavor. Overall OK.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 oteyj (1753) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 17, 2008
Pours dark bown with beige head and decent lacing. Aroma is molasses, brown sugar, and raisin with a hint of licorce. Flavor is sweet but not overly powerful- lots of sweetness with raisin and molasses prevalent. Palate is a bit on the thin side considering the appearance, but enjoyable just the same.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cybercat (1735) - Georgia, USA - APR 23, 2011
Aroma is smoky and chocolaty with yeast and caramel hints. It pours a dark chocolate brown that is opaque save at the edges and has a very thick, if not persistent, tan head - the sample I got fizzed like nobody’s business. Oh noes, wasted beer! Satisfying flavor is malty with smoky, chocolate and nutty tones and just a touch of caramel. Texture is quite fizzy, leaving behind a rather persistent tingle.

Chestnut color with a beige head. The taste is sweet, malty, fruity with a slight bitter sharpness in the finish.

Bottle. Poured a medium dark borwn body with thin head. Aroma is light fruit, dried fruit, and some yeasty character. Flavor is smooth, light ammount of dried fruit and cherries with a dry yeast taste. Finishes smooth. Crap, I can’t type tonight!!!!

750 ml. flip top ceramic bottle. Pours a fluffy, rapidly collapsing, tiny bubbled, light beige head, over a clear dark amber (SRM 12) body...nose is dusty, musty, light toffee/caramel, bit of plum and raisin...taste is light malts with an astringent sharp herbal bite, finishing with a mild bitterness....mouth feel is on the light side, carbonation very high. This is a harsh, simple Belgian Ale. I wonder if the bottle was mishandled. BJCP 6/3/10/4/6
