the bottle is absolutely awesome. . a heavy solid ceramic cask with a stopper... it carries with it highexpectations that as much attention and creativity has been given to what is inside. Alas, such is not the case.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Brown beer, tan head. Nose is fruity, slightly sweet and with malty notes, perfume. Flavor is floral hops and malt, perfume notes. Some hops in the finish. Definitely not a porter.

OK, maybe they got me with the ceramic bottle and flip-top.....but I really liked this beer. This was when I was first getting into Belgianís, but this resembles a porter more than a Belgian Ale. It does have that "Belgian" taste though, from the kind of yeast they use maybe? Is it worth $10 for a 750ml?....probably not, but I am not complaining b/c it was very tasty and a good experience. Donít know if Iíd buy again for that coin, but if you havenít tried yet and money isnít really an object, I would recommend at least sampling this beer.

750cc bottle. Lovely dark brown and reddish colour. On the sweet side. Hints of molasses and maple syrup. A bit nutty also. Some bitterness in the end. Very pleasant.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a dark amber-red with a respectable but short-lived frothy head. Good lacing with a light aroma reminiscent of raspberry. Smooth flavor of light grains quickly transitioning to blackberry and raspberry. A liytle on the watery side. Not a true porter by any means, but not altogether bad either.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
"probably a bad bottle, but as it was my first time trying it, iíll have to rate it from the one time. upon opening, the beer exploded out of the heavy ceramic bottle, and continued to overflow for several minutes. i was able to pour it with two fingers of head. i wasnít expecting a traditional porter (which it is not), but i donít know if the funkiness was on purpose or if the beer was totally spoiled, as i had no frame of reference. i was looking forward to trying a belgian porter, but as we had it, it poured thin, smelled funky, if not spoiled, had a thin mouthfeel and a rather unique, but ultimately boring flavor...like a flanders/porter hybrid. maybe iíll try it again one day to see if what we had was a true representation of this beer, but at the price, it may be a while."

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 0,5l. A ceramic swing top bottle. Pours a deep amber brown colour with tan head and leaves a great lace. Aromas of toasty malt and chocolate. Tastes sweet and chocolatey up front, followed by some bitterness on the end.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: OCT 8, 2014 One of Sterkensís ípitcher beersí, tasted as Hoogstraten Poorter; dense, stable head and warm bronze colour; fruity and malty aroma, bit straightforward but enjoyable, with some roasted bitterness in the finish. A bit like a downtuned Scotch, still one of the better Sterkens beers I had.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle in Santa Barbara
My father picked this one out; I donít think Iíve ever seen it in Washington state. Dark pour, very little head. Pretty nice nose, chocolate and just a touch of porter vinous sourness; a belgian yeast thing and more smoke than I would have expected. Flavor is just a little bit sweet, bakerís chocolate and again those vinous notes. A bit thin would be my main complaint. My wife was very impressed and stole my glass. I go a bit against the grain here and actually think this was nice.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark brown with a fairly large head that however dissipates quickly, leaving an uneven thin foam on top of the beer. Malt, roasted coffee aroma. Pleasantly roasted flavour, though the flavour seems a bit alcoholic for "only" 6Ĺ%. Decent enough, but not earth-shattering.
