I agree with psychprof on this one itís alot like one of my homebrews that was intended to be a dubbel but I used a different yeast. This on is a very nice brew but not my idea of a porter maybe the monks had a few toomany themselves when they made labeled this one, but a cool bottle and I donít know the alcohol level but it is up there as most belgiums are.

The pour a cloudless sangrineous color, the head slight, and the lace patchy. The nose is mostly malt, fresh and clean smelling with the start thickly malt, lightly sweet and the top middling in its mouth feel. Finish is penetratingly acidic, the hops toothsome, also a bit vinous and lightly tart, the aftertaste exquisitely dry and long lasting. Different front the run of the mill porters, and the 6.5% ABV adds a bit of warmth to the tummy, well worth a sample, as a change of pace from the American Style Porters.

I dont know how old this beer is but it definitly isn't like any other porter. Nice fruity aroma and a great flowerly like taste. No bitterness and no taste of alcohol.

Ceramic flip-cap bottle. Pours dark velvet, and the nose is of raisins. If this is a porter, then Iím a broadway dancer. This is more like a cross between a brown ale and an amber. Itís good stuff, with the malt coming through with a strong whisper. A slight raisin taste is evident at first, followed by a nice subdued roasted nut flavor. Good stuff, just not worth the price! I can still get this at Specís in Houston, but I guess once their supply is out, itís over.

Appearance: dark mahogany color. Great head with beige color, lasting and rocky. Aroma: intensive and nice vintage wine and berries smells. Spicy tones similar to ginger, clove and cinnamon. Other aromatic reminiscences like figs, dark raisins, caramel and toast bread. Flavor: caramel malts start and progress similar to clove and ginger. Fruitiness like berries, raisins and figs. Vintage wine and cherry liquor reminiscences. Light final dry with light citric touch. Palate: medium and semi-oily texture. Light carbonation. Balanced, nice and some complex beer. Beautiful bottle.

Semi-clear brown pour with large fading khaki head. Sweet chocolate cherry aroma. Brown sugar, soy, molassis, anise flavors. Very belgian in nature, not a porter. Earthy bitter finish. Medium full body with a creamy carbonation. Cool ass ceramic swing-top.

Poured from the very unique ceramic bottle. I really bought this to bottle my home brew in this bottle because it is so neat! Poured dark brown, with a decent head. Aroma is nice, roasted, and died fruit, reminded me of lagunitas brew. Flavour was disapointing, not bad, but not as delicious as Iíd hoped. Mouthfeel is thick and oily. Finishes with a overcarbonated/ cardboardy taste. Overall its OK to drink, and I may buy more, but mostly for the ceramic bottle.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2012 500mL ceramic swing top bottle. Pours a deep amber brown color with tan head and lovely lace. Aromas of toasty malt and chocolate. Tastes sweet and chocolatey up front, followed by some bitterness on the end. A little harsh, but I still enjoyed drinking this one.

Into its own snifter at just on cool. Big Belgian head is mostly lasting atop a bright ruby cola body. A rocky, loose, frothy off-white mess that laces well. There is a hint of Belgian yeast and sherry on the nose amongst layers of chocolate and dark, woody malts, raisins and dried dates, cocoa and lightly roasted coffee beans, yum. Creamy and full well rounded mouthfeel. Flavours of sweet sherry, madeira, oak, smoky charred wood, cola and a late hint of nutmeg spice. Nice, silky malty length only heightened by some sneaky alcohol warmth. A favourite of mine so I have a soft spot for this one. Lovely drinking, and better as it warms. Delicious.
