Cask by handpump at Cask & Barrel Southside, Edinburgh on 2 Jan 12 - pours dark ruby red with a lovely malt amora and thick creamy head. Flavour is caramel and fruity. Very sweet, just how I like my beer. One of the greats.

On cask at Leslie’s Bar. Pours a dark ruby colour with a thick beige head. Malty aroma and flavours of caramel and milk chocolate. Nice and dry with a dry caramel linger. Quite malty overall. Mild carbonation. OK.

On cask at The Robert Nairn, Kirkcaldy. A chestnut coloured ale with a red hue. Toffee, caramels, roasted flavour. A nice change to the abundance of bland golden ales in Scotland today. Enjoyable stuff.

Cask conditioned at The Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh. Chestnut with cream head. Malty, sweet Scottish ales used to be the norm, before the god of hops intervened. This is really quite a decent version, some toffee caramel, a bit of roastiness, it’s ok.

Cask at the Standng Order, Edinburgh. Caramel, sweet malt, I think is how Scottiesh ales used to be. Too sweet, lacks a bitter edge.
