Cask at Halfway House, Edinburgh 12 Nov 08. Dark brown colored – almost black. A small tanned creamy head. Modest malty aroma. Sweet fruity flavor with some malty hints. Hardly any bitterness. A bit disappointing.

Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 29/01/09. Reddish-amber with next to no head. Malty aroma, with some fruit and a slight hint of smoke. Flavour had some sweet malt, red fruit and a short bitter finish. An enjoyable change from English bitters.

Cask, half pint. Mahogany body under a low, off-white head. Nice laceworks. Weak aroma of fruitlike malts. Plain malty initial taste, becoming more fruity and bitter towards the ending. Medium bodied. A wonderful experience sitting at the old island bar and gantry at Abbortsford in Edinburgh [25.10.2008].

From tap at Stockbridge Tap. Pours clear and golden deep amber to brown with a creamy and tan head. Mild roasted and maty aroma. Flavour too is mild roasted and mild malty with a smooth towards breadish roasted note. Mild spiced and malty roasted finish. Nice one.

I enjoyed my first pint of this in a great wee pub in Edinburgh called the Dagda Bar. A dark ruby pint with a nice thick head that showed good retention throughout the pint. The nose was sweet malts and fruit with a slight hint of roastiness added. The taste was a typical 80/~ malty and fruity with a nice sweet aftertaste. A nice heavy body finished off a very nice beer. Nice enough for me to order another.

Cask at Whey Pat Ale Festival, St Andrews. Dark red with a thin white head. Nose is fruity and sickly malts, sugar. Mouth is quite straightforward malty and some dark fruit. Really quite boring.
