3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On cask at The Robert Nairn, Kirkcaldy. A chestnut coloured ale with a red hue. Toffee, caramels, roasted flavour. A nice change to the abundance of bland golden ales in Scotland today. Enjoyable stuff.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at a bar in Edinburgh
Pours dark red amber hue with a small off white eggshell head. Nose is malty toasted and quite earthy. Flavors of toasted malt caramel and very lite earthy hops. This is quite lovely as you would say in this part of the world. Finish has lingering toasted caramel malt. Very nice little beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at The Last Drop, Edinburgh, £3.70/pint.
Dark brown beer with a thin, cream-coloured head. Basically no nose at all to speak of. The taste for the most part is very sweet with malty caramel, toffee and fudge flavours coming through on a thick, smooth palate. There’s no hop action at all. Pleasant at first sip but by the end of the pint it was a little sickly. I’d have been better off just having a half. Probably a decent example of a "classic Scottish heavy" but not really my thing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
4.4%abv real ale at Deacon Brodies. Pours a deep caramel/ruby with a one finger, creamy head that thins to a thick film but leaves a nice coating. Aroma has nice notes of caramel, toffee, hints of roast, and traditional spicy/earthy hops. Taste is balanced with slight fruity English yeast notes. Sweet caramel, toffee, bread, and a great ending. Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. A touch thin but still creamy with a slightly dry finish. Overall a really nice beer. Caramel, toffee, slight fruity yeast notes, and a great mouth feel.

Once upon a time cask at Bow Bar.
Decent deepish brown colour with a pleasant bready malt quality. Fine constant thin line of head. Strong and edgy with some lines of joy on the tips. Good.
