Pours dark brown, not really transparent, not really hazy. Finger-thick foam subdues fast. Aroma has some malt bread base that has covered itself with a hop blanket. Taste reveals quite thin body that still has some smoked malt thickness and aroma hops spike. Quite nice for only 5% and nothing wrong with it - but maybe a bit too basic for my taste.

Bottle from Red Elephant Beer Cellar in Truro. Nice dark colour, hold it up to light and itís ruby, tan head which starts thick before receding and leaving a more soapy like head throughout. On the smell I picked up berry fruits, a bit of melon, tropical citrus, caramel and toasted malts. Taste starts a bit sweet before the dry bitterness of the hops makes itself present although not that strong. Nicely balanced and a pleasure to drink, perhaps a little thin in the mouth but nothing to complain about!

50cl Bottle, tfs R&J! Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, some melon. Flavour is of a hoppy dubbel with some extra roast, dark fruits, some melon, light hoppy bitter finish. Light bodied. Lacks punch.

Bottle Coppers Newcastle. Surprisingly sweet and malty for a beer if this style. Pours ruby black, the head disappearing fairly quickly. Ripe red berry flavour and whilst initially not what I expected, the hoppy bitterness comes through more as you progress through it and it finishes pretty strongly.

Bottle at home, from Hippo Beers, 15/06/14. Light black with a good sized tan head that dissipates then stays for the show. Nose is light roast, faint dogs fart, red berry fruits, liqourice, pine, bitter tropical tinges. Taste comprises Ribena berry pangs, light roast, dankish hop twinges, earthy cocoa rub, tropicana mash, pine petticoat. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light spritz, hop bitterness and red berry fruit vibes at the curtain call. Decent enough CDA.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dirty brown with a small beige head. Nose is mild roast, light citrus and pepper. Quite earthy and roasty with mild citrus fruits coming through. The malts are a little burnt and ashy. Solid but nothing to shout about

Black beer with a thin beige head and a light spicy aroma. A balanced fruity edge and a dry, toasty finish. Itís not really special but itís very drinkable.
