Had at Jolly Judge in Edinburgh. Great beer, similar to the Tempest Chipotle, though sadly a bit less ’’chili-y’. Nonetheless, if this was on regular cask rotation, I’d certainly drink it often.

Cask by handpump at Bert’s Bar, Edinburgh (2 Feb 12) - pours very dark red colour with a medium tan head, roasted nut and chocolate aroma, the effect of the chilli is quite subtle in this beer, very well balanced drink, highly recommended

On cask at The Blue Blazer. Pours a very dark brown colour with a beautiful thick, light tan head. A little chilli aroma, however, the nose is primarily caramel with chocolate and roasty malt notes. A nice alcohol and chilli burn leads into roasty malt, coffee and caramel. Alcohol and chilli flavours also linger with moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel.

Cask @ The Queens Arms. Black colour, light brown head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee and coffee cream. Flavour is roasted malts and coffee upfront, followed by a light chili spicyness. Creamy and slightly hot finish not too overpowering. Well balanced. Really pleasant.

Cask at The Bow Bar. Deep brown with lasting tan head. Thick texture. Velvety. Amazing malt to chilli balance. Sweet, malty. Slight spice in the throat. Very well measured.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden on 20th December 2014. Sepia black with thin pale tan laceless ring of foam. Richly roasty aroma with spices. Roasty in-mouth with citric touch and evident chilli which then dominates the finish albeit roundedly. Roasty mallts continue. Medium body, and an engaging texture.

[cask at Bow Bar Winter Festival 2011, Edinburgh] Black pour, with a thin tan head. Pretty hefty roasty malt aroma, with some peppery spikiness. Flavours are mostly malt-led at first – chocolate and bitter coffee, but then a touch of chilli appears after, rising into the finish. It’s not immediately noticeable, and less distinct than the other Scottish chilli beer – Tempest Chipotle – but then you’d expect that looking at the two breweries. It’s not often you praise a chilli beer for its subtlety, but this one was really quite nice [26012012]
