3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle from Appellation Wines. BBE Nov 2013, so better get it drunk! Pours dark brown with a good tan head. Aromas are roasted malt, chocolate and coffee going into something metallic. Taste has more choclate sweetness, then the coconut finally coming through. (I’ve heard that the coconut flavour dissipates over time, so would like to re-rate a fresh one.) Good body for the strength, and nice porter overall.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle bought from a soon forgotten off-licence during a long-remembered pub crawl around Edinburgh’s best Real Ale pubs. Drunk at home. Poured a clear dark brown colour with an average size beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coconut/coconut milk. Quite sweet, reminiscent of a sweet stout. Body is medium, with a silky texture. Soft carbonation. Slight novelty feel to it but not at all bad.

Bottle from Deeside Drink Emporium. It pours dark brown a medium beige head. The nose is roasty, earth, chocolate, coconut, oily and hint of vanilla. The taste is soft roast, earth, cocoa, coconut, dark choc bounty bar and light toast with a pretty dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced, thankfully coconut is not overdone. Rather tasty stuff indeed.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I must have missed something, because this didn’t do anything for me. Thin (granted it’s only 4.5), not a great deal of coconut and the traditional porter roast was benign and ineffectual. Easy drinking, but the slightly sour finish put me right off.
