Based on our IPA malt grist but bolstered by the wonderful American Amarillo Hop our Hollyrood is a world class pale ale.
Pale in colour with a full fresh citrus aroma, Hollyrood has a light body, moderate bitterness and tangy grapefruit flavours. It goes well with light flavoured foods such as tiger prawns in garlic butter, char-grilled chicken, pan fried sea bass, or burger & chips.
Hops: Magnum and Amarillo Malt: Maris Otter and Wheat

33cl bottle at the Hub, by the Castle, Edinburgh. A rather hazy pale amber pour with a white head and an attractive citrus aroma; refreshing grapefruit taste with a grainy body. A tasty summer beer.

2014-07-10. Crisp dark yellow body with a small white head nice lace. 3+ Aroma is moderate grassy hops over pale malt. Flavour is relatively bitter throughout, grassy straw hops over pale malt light lemon hints. Average plus bodied palate, good carbonation. Quaffable but not to my taste. On tap at Holyrood 9A, Edinburgh

Bottle at the Doric Arms, Edinburgh on 16 May. Poured a slightly hazy orange, with a thin white head. Citrus hop aroma, with some hay and a slight chalky note. Initial flavour of tropical fruits, pine needles and brown sugar. Finish was dry grain, melon and caramel.

A cloudy golden beer with a good head on it. A pleasant APA style beer but with noticeable wheat malt. Refreshing but I have tasted better.

World's best pale? I struggle to believe it. Bottle imported to Australia, 6 months out from best before date. The beer is over carbonated, cidery or acetaldehyde off flavours. Maybe it got too warm in transit? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy medium gold, with a very large off-white head, which lasts well and leaves reasonable lacing. Banana and doughy yeast dominate the aroma, with floral hops in the background. Strong grapefruit and peppery hops up front give way to banana leading into the mid-palate. Mild biscuit malt in a light body gives way to citrus hops in the finish. It’s a bit yeasty, but otherwise not too bad.

Pours a moderately hazy golden amber with a decent sized dirty white head and little to no lace. Aroma is fruity, good quality English malts giving the biscuits and citrus. Flavour is sweet biscuits, citrus, grass, mild bitterness and some fruity esters.

Light orange colour with a little head that soon dissipates. Light and hoppy. Definitely grapefruit in there.

Bought because the bottle proclaimed it to be the world gold medalist in IPAs for 2013. I’ve had better but this wasn’t bad. Citrus notes and well balanced profile. Had one bottle with a BBQ dinner 6 months ago so forgive my lack of a more accurate review. Maybe a revisit is in order.
