sloth (1538), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Mar 18, 2008 Well i finally got eaglefan to try this puppy. Had to bludgeon him into finally trying this one! Was worth the wait though. Poured a small white head with decent retention and a bit of spotty lace. Clear, gold colored. Light bourbon notes up front with a gentle tropical fruitiness and some laid back wood notes too boot. Body is medium with a soft carbonation and a light pricklyness from the wood maybe? Flavors of mellow bourbon and wood backed by light Trippel notes of pepper and fruit, light citrus and some pencil shavings thrown in for good measure. Lightly sweet finish is bourbony and fruity. The bourbon notes were dominant but not stealing the whole show. Fairly well balanced and enjoyable. Aged nicely. I rather enjoyed this one. Thanks Brian! eaglefan538 (2079), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Mar 15, 2008 750 bottle from summer of 06, finally got to this one. Pour was clear golden, nice white head, good retention, although it did thin to a smaller but complete covering. Carbonation was lively and healthy even after aging almost two years. The primary aroma components were apples, bananas, pears, sawdusty wood/oak, some bourbon too. Flavor followed the aroma, bourbon more in the aftertaste than primary experience (which is how it should be), some honey and other spicing, chainsaw wood notes. Only shortcoming of this was the lack of phenolic and light hop character that I love in my tripels, which could have been a result of the aging that otherwise did wonders for this brew. Good stuff, Stewarts! weeare138 (928), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 Much thanks to egajdzis who finally decided to break this out of his cellar since getting one of these rarities not too long ago.
Appears a transparent gold with a small white head that slowly fades out into a mild cap. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of coconut, vanilla, peach, pineapple, mango, and citrus.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with tropical fruit salad, and vanilla standing out in a luscious flavor that I find addictive.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lightly acidic, with tropical fruit and vanilla lingering in the aftertaste.
I loved this beer and hope that it finds a way to me again. axilla (942), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 3, 2007 Poured a medium cherrywood color body with some white head lace. Aroma of spices, dry wood, bourbon, and belgian yeast. Flavors are sweet bread, vanilla, bourbon, mild spices, and a little citrus, with a dry oaky finish.
