GMCC2181 (303), Bear, Delaware, USA Apr 3, 2008 On tap at stewarts; Color was amber, decent head. Aroma was sweet malt? WOW Nice flavor! Smooth... spice and cinnamon, light banana, hint of brown sugar and warming. Medium texture. A good brew by stewarts???? How is that possible. Just joking this is a really solid beer! DocLock (3958), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2008 Draft. Pours dark strawish color with off-white head. Nose is rye bready malt, some hops, some hefeweiseny banana and spicy yeast. The flavor hits you first with the banana and spicy yeast, with the rye malt hitting at mid-palate, and a smooth finish. This is a decent entry into this category. Earlier Rating: 1/29/2007 Total Score: 3.5 Hazy brown pour, with a rye malty aroma, coupled with some hops, and a flavor of malty rye malt, slight hops, nuts, and brown sugar. Not sweet, but crisp and smooth. eaglefan538 (2020), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Feb 8, 2007 Orangey to slight brown in color, weak head and lacing. The aroma was cloves, sweet bananas, nice but not overwhelmingly impressive. The flavor, though, was pretty nice, particularly as it warmed. It started out almost dubbel like, bananas, spicing, some weak dark fruits present even. However, this turned more into a balance with the warmer temperatures, the rye came out and REALLLY complemented the clove spicing from the yeast well, creating a zingy, light, and pleasant bitterness perfect in the absence of hops, nicely balancing out the relatively sweet base (barley, rye, yet the fruity banana aspects from the yeast). The mouthfeel didn’t come across as thinned out with the rye, but I really liked the rye in this concoction’s flavor. I’ve done a handful of rye beers before, but this is my first of the roggenbier substyle. I’ll have to look these guys up next tim in Germany!
