3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at in de Wildeman, Amsterdam. Pours a quite hazy brownish-red with islands of stark white, sticky foam floating and lasting. Aroma is predominantly caramel sweetness, but there also a very high ester profile in clove and banana notes, and a bit of that characteristic wheat funk/sourness. Taste is fairly complex, and quite fragrant at first sip. Great chewy malt presence: caramel, toffee sweetness upfront mingles with a fruity component reminiscent of dark berries and cherries as well. A slight sour note in the finish as well as a very faint alcohol presence. The aftertaste is striking and lasts considerably, a slight sour component sticking to the palate, and a bitter presence at the sides of the tongue. Despite high carbonation this retains a thick, complex mouthfeel. Quite nice, approaches Aventinus but doesn’t quite make it to those heights.
