Delicious, full-bodied Salzburg beer specialty.

Stiegl Goldbräu boasts an unrivalled, well rounded, balanced and wonderfully thirst-quenching flavour. Mildly hopped with a typical refreshing beer bouquet, golden colour, a magnificent fine head and pleasant aftertaste, Stiegl Goldbräu is the enjoyment of beer at the highest level. 12°

Bottle, courtesy of Oscbert (thanks again man). Pours a light yellow with a small head. Aroma is mostly of hay, field grasses. Flavor is pretty typical of a German-style lager; light grain and grass. Smooth finish. Overall, fair plus.

Cask @ Brew Wharf, London. Golden colour, large white head. Aroma of lager malts, some bitterness. Flavour is bitter, vegetables with lager malts. Slightly bitter and dry finish.

Found this one in an airport liquor store(!). Very attractive, retro-looking label. Poured a smallish white head which nevertheless had some worthwhile lacing. The colour was a nicely carbonated light, clear gold and the aroma was a delicate, lightly hopped and a bit floral. Pleasing to the nose, was it. Taste was slightly bitter and clean, with a nice mouthfeel and aftertaste. A respectable beer.

Plain old ’Stiegl Bier’ in my neck of the woods. Bright and fizzing with a billowing head of suds. Striking fresh blossomy hop aroma with grass, honey and leather. Silky and fresh with hay, honey, floury biscuit and chick pea notes, and a bitterly nutty linger. Superior, fragrantly hopped lager. Looks like I’m in a minority of 1 here. Maybe you have to be drowned in the fizzy, hopless, corn flavoured bilge that commonly passes as lager in the UK (or most of Europe, for that matter) to appreciate what a decent beer this actually is.

Clear golden towards amber with a big frothing fast disappearing white head. Aroma is medium malty and alchoholic, quite clean. Clean taste aswell with a medium amount of alchohol balanced ´by a smooth malty sweetness. Simple and good.

Golden colour with an OK head. Aroma of grains and citric hops. The flavour is everything that resonates in the beautiful term "pale lager": bland, grainy, getting unpleasant after a couple of ounces, metallic. A beer that you’ll find everywhere in Austria and still it isn’t worth a try. Maybe I had it too often...

From a 500mL Can. Pours a transparent, honey gold color with a quickly dissipating head of fizzy white. Clean malt nose with a bready malt base and some hints of fruity melanoidin character. Medium light bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a prickly texture. Sweet malt flavors of bread dough and green raisin melanoidins up front on the palate, sweetened with a hint of honey. Munich-y. Too sweet. No hop character. The can is awesome, though. Definitely the best part.
