Had it as Salzburger with a much cooler bottle with old time print. I am not always a huge Lager fan but this is one of the best ones. Crisp, clean and slightly sweet, this is what most people would consider the classic flavor of beer yet done much better. Might bne a good beer to convert Miller Drinkers. I mean that in a good way. A gateway beer if you will.

Sweet, graham malt aroma. Very clear yellow. Standard Euro pint bottle. Big, big white head in a pilsener glass. Lightly bitter, fairly clean, cereal, nothing remarkable. Picked this up from Sam’s Wine & Spirits near Clybourn street in Chicago.

This is really nice and one of my new favourite non-pilsner-style golden lagers. It is deep gold with a big white head that slowly shrinks to a permanenet smaller white head. The aroma, a bit sweet, is a full-bodied, very nice lager, wioth grain, honey, lots of flowery-herbal-pine hops qualities, crakcers. The taste is quite full-bodied with lots of grain, herbs, honey, flowers, very aromatic, with a light bitterness and a sweet finish of grain combined with gtrassy bitterness. It’s full-bodied and a bit oily, with a slightly unusual taste for a lager that is hard to pin down. It’s refreshing but delicsioulsy tasty. It goes very well with chicken. In short, this is wonderful.

Botella. Pours a clear golden colour with a nice big white well lasting head. The aroma has hops, malt and some metal. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is a bit sweet with bitter hops, malt, grains and some caramel. Softly bitter dry finish.

Golden body with minimum head. Grainy sweet malt on the aroma which carries through to the taste, not too much other characters, lager drinkers will quite like this beer but.

First off, I love the retro 1930s label on the version imported into Australia and branded as "Salzburger Stiegl Bier". Looks nothing like the bottle pictured left - or any other bottle pictured in the Steigl range on this website. The beer looked okay in a glass, holding its short head fairly well. The grainy aroma was marred by some green-bottle light-strike but surrendered Munich malts, tobacco and lemon cordial. Sweetish malty flavour mix with minimal bitterness. Too damn sweet for my taste. Where’s the hops? Slick body. Hugely disappointing. Too sweet to be refreshing or sessionable. A mass-produced lager of no distinction or character. (330ml bottle from Randwick Village Cellars. BB 8/5/08)

33cl bottle at home(aut). It is one of the better standard beers in austria and drunk vividly by not so poor (it’s quite pricey) students all over. Gold in colour and visibly bubbly, it has a fresh flowery nose. Tastes of sweet-fresh hops and keeps well to the finish.

Golden and pearly with a small, but creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, light sweetness, light flower and honey. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of caramel, malt. light flower and a brief, but refreshing bitterness.

Pours bright golden with a fully receding white head. Aroma of sweet malt, cookie, light herbal hops. Taste is crisp maltiness, light toast, crackers and herbs. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation. Very clean and quaffable lager, quite enjoyable.

A - fruity A - Not as clear as I would have hoped. more yellow then gold. F - alright, could be fuller. P - smooth O - decent lager that gave me a reason to use my new lager glass.
