Eine naturbelassene Salzburger Bierspezialität, gebraut mit österreichischen Rohstoffen aus kontrolliert biologischem Anbau. Feinwürzig im Geschmack, samtig mild am Gaumen mit leicht fruchtig-aromatischem Charakter. Das Zwickl ist ungefiltert und natürlich trüb.

6 soft, but complex, grainy aroma.
4- Mid orange, cloudy, large brief tight head.
6 grainy retronasals and a full light grainy taste, touch wheaty, touch husky too.
3 Thin palate, crisp carbonation. Finish continues the grains, heading towards an almost bocky plasticity and almondiness.
12 Crisp and refreshing, yet not lacking in flavour either. My first zwickl in keg, and it’s as good as many of the bottled one I’ve had. Very tasty proper lager.

Sample from tap. Again from the Glunz Beer Expo last April. Unlike most beers being sampled here, they had a tap for this one. Nice cloudy yellow, with a foam layer on top. Slightly malt and sweet German malt smell, little hop in the nose. Goes down lightly malty, just a little Vienna malt flavor to it. Sweet on the tongue, catching a tiny note of yeast in the background, but it’s not in the way at all. This beers settles in very nicely.

On tap at the Malt House - Pours hazy, cloudy dark yellow with a small light-bubbled head. Bready and yeasty on the nose, with some honey, floral hops, and a real firm maltiness that keeps it all together. Fairly sweet, bready malt taste, with a nice floral hop finish. Real yeasty, and perhaps a bit too much sweetness, but this is fantastically refreshing. Light and tingly carbonation adds to the effect. So pumped that I got to have this on tap!

A Mes rate. Tap at the Draught House.Hazy yellow brown with a thin white head. Strong unbrewed malt character as expected. Lots of straw and hay. Pleasant bitterness. Innocent, straight forward and effortlessly drinkable. Rubbish but enjoyable.

This is really quite delicious. Draft a few times, bready, nice carbonation, on the softer side, really much better as it warms and opens up, nice almost ’wheaty’ like graininess, hops are a bit soft, I could use a tiny bit more edge, but I would never turn this beer down! Yum! needs to be way more like this! bring back the real beer!

On tap at the Map Room, Chicago. Cloudy golden amber, robust clingy head. Hearty, fruit-kissed cereal aroma. Bready, husky grainy flavour, really tasty and malty. Hints of beguiling fruit, I’m guessing from the yeast. Tasty.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2010 Draught at Map Room. Hazy gold with a mountain of white head. This is a serious looking beer. The aroma is lightly yeasty and hoppy with a creamy, sweet malt component. The hops are apparent but minty and herbaceous in a mellow way The flavor is lighter in bitterness but still well balanced and creamy. Even though the bartender said this keg was nearing its one month drink by date (try finding that in another European beer over here) I still though it had a very nice fresh yeasty quality.

A great example of a Zwickl. Pours golden with thick haze. Taste is fruity with a pronounced malty sweetness.
