3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the Map Room Chicago. Pours a cloudy deep orange with a creamy off white head. Aroma is zesty and fruity, a nice fresh bready quality to it and a crisp floral hoppiness, the fruit character really bursting along with honey and light citrus. Flavor is even fresher, just a ton of fruitiness, the malts give it a nice body that isn’t too light so it is filling and the honey and bready notes really give balance with the lightly spicy hops. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Excellent beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from Salzburg back in mid-May 2011. Like the label, font frivolity without pretense. Dusty malty nose with some celery. Dry, dusty malty taste, crisp medium body. Nice grassy, lightly floral hoppy tones. Well-crafted by Stiegl, not overly minerally this time, but hard to get too excited about all these bottled Zwickelbiere, they’re pretty much all the same.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Not the prettiest looking beer. Murky straw in color with a finger or so of white. A very pleasant honey-like sweetness with lots of bread floral hops. A subtle orange aroma to it, as well as some other fruit notes. Just a hint of yeast in there. Really nice citrus and floral hop flavors to this beer. Plenty of honey and bread notes and a light yeast flavor. Medium body and carbonation.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Hazy dark golden with quickly dissipating head. Aroma is strongly bready-grainy-malty, some mild citrus and sweetish malty-vinous elements, some honey and apples. Quite a sweet nose. Taste is mainly grainy-bready, with some honey and apples and very mild citrus. Lightly sweetish-sourish, almost no bitterness, some honey in the aftertaste. Carbonation moderate to high, a bit too high. Quite nice but not really convincing for a zwickel.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Map Room. Hazy yellow with a sticky white head. Nose is really nice. Bready malts predominant with a lighty yeasty note. There is also a really nice spicy hop component as well. On taste, the yeast really makes this a different beer. Plenty of body on this one and a cleanness to the yeast that is really spectacular. The hopping is spot on with lighty spice and bitterness. Damn great beer.
