Enjoyment of first-rate beer with a pleasant hoppy character. Straw-colored and warm amber glow, pleasantly sparkling with a dry body. Using the aromatic hops from the Mühlviertel region, it entices you with a bouquet of fresh hops and a distinctive bitter finish. 11.4°

One of the 3 Stiegls I tried in Salzburg. Pale golden color , medium white head. A nice pilsener but nothing extremely special.

Sampled on tap. This was my first true beer with a distinctive taste. A sweet "wheaty" taste that I couldn’t even begin to try to determine what it was. I would describe this as a dessert beer or something I would sip slowly. Surprisingly that wheaty taste goes away as quickly as it started. One of my personal favourites.

Bottle. Light golden beer with a nice white head. Slightly skinked (brown bottle) aroma with slight mineral and grass. Bready malt flavor with mineral tones and spicy hops. Lingering hops. Dry finish. Not bad, decent pils

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2009 This is my favorite of the Pils style beers. A very distinct hops flavor. Somewhat sweet. Less bitterness then most pils. Clear yellow with a nice substantial white head. I prefer it even to other Czech beers even Czechvar.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2012 New Rating, which certainly is for the right beer: Purchased at Total Wine & More, Fairfax 500ml: Pours a light golden colour with a frothy white head. Aroma is fairly light. Hops are there, but in a very mild grassy force. Taste is kind of dry. There is a little bit more sweetness than I would want to have in a pilsener. German style hopping is there, but is also very, very mellow. Olde Rating, which may or may not have been for the right beer: Drank this out of the can that made it look like a really, really cheap beer, but in fact it was quite good. It is a great beer to sit back and relax with on a train as I did. Goes down really easy, but lets your mouth know that it was there for a little bit at least with its slight hoppy undertone. Not very special, but worth having if it comes your way.

Draught @ beerbistro: Pours a very pale gold with an initially decent head that limps off into a light lacing. Aroma is seemingly non-existent with only a slight hint of hops to my nose. Flavour is.. well, boring to be honest. Nothing to separate it from any other german pilsener with elements of malts and saaz hops. Overly picky on my part, perhaps, but I just find these beers to be so generic and bland. Probably didn’t help that I had it with three others.

From a 1 pt. 1 oz. euro brown bottle with a coded freshness date at the center bottom of back label. Poured a clear pale golden with a nice foamy white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing. Aromas of spicy, herbal and grassy hops with a backing sweet pilsener malts. Good carbonation and a crisp, dry, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. A pleasant pilsener taste, sweet, sugary pilsener malts with a touch of grain and dry biscuits, spicy, lightly peppery, herbal hoppiness, just enough soft bitterness to match the dry crispiness from the malts, a little grassiness starts to show up towards the end of the taste and a dry biscuity, slight cereal grainy finish with a hint of grassiness lingering in the palate. A really decent tasting pils from Stiegl, this is the third lager I’ve tried from Stiegl and, so far, all have been above average, tasty and balanced.

Here’s what a pilsner should taste like. Terrific flavor - bright and fresh. With a depth so many American Pilsner’s are lacking. Full flavored without the hoppiness of a micro-brew pilsner. Great with burgers or steaks - casual or upscale.
