3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
500ml. Bright golden caramel color with a tight foamy white head. Fresh and fruity nose with apricot and caramel showing up as well as some faint hops. The body of this beer is pretty full, lots of caramel and mild sweetness are balanced by a slightly yeasty european hop character. like the start more than the finish but this is pretty good stuff and i would drink it again.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark goldish in the glass with a diminishing head. Aromas of grains and malts. Iím surprised that the alcohol is so high. Lots of malt on the flavor, somewhat sweet. Overall, however, a lot of off flavors and some palate problems hurt this one.

This will be my first foray intot he brews of the Stiegl family, since the distributor has been out of them since I moved to Virginia. My first choice is the bock, myself being a fan of the fancy European malt likraas. I am looking at deep blonde beauty, from which arises a slightly heavy smell of grain and caramel. Matching toe to tip so far. Expresses the preceived aromas of sweeter malt, a light honeyed glow on the tongue, an apple fad and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. I have a feeling that if I found this on draft somewhere, things would end up broken, I would end up lost and picture phones would have a video testement of the stupid things people do when they get too drunk off of a tasty, strong lager. It is dee-ricious.

Pours cloudy medium yellow-orange. Aroma is nice, cereal grains, carmel, with leathery and horse blanked like esters, hints of fruit grapes and apples. Flavor is balanced, flavors of carmel and grain with an average fiinish. Light bodied watery and creamy, softly carbonated, clean finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a nice orange-tinted amber with a solid bright white foam head. Big cookie-dough/malty aroma. The flavor on the other hand is distinctly of baked apples. Nice flavorful beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2007 9/11/2006: I spent 3 months in Austria toward the end of 2000 and ended up developing both a taste and appreciation for Austrian beers. The Stieglbock is quite different than the Steigl Columbus Bock regardless of the fact the RateBeer lists the former as an alias for the latter... The 2004 bottle of Stieglbock that I sampled from my cellar last night was a hazy/cloudy light brown color with a big white head. Aroma was initially of roasted apples, but more of the malt came out as it warmed. The flavor was very much like the aroma. It is not too heavy or think and has a sweet finish to it. This is a good bock that is quite easy to drink. The alcohol is completely hidden and will truly sneak up on you after having 2 or 3! This is a good starter bock for those who might be trying to get into bock beer since it isnít overwhelming strong, despite its 7% alcohol. I always try to keep some of this as well as other Austrian beers on hand so that I can share my love of Austrian beer since it really isnít too widely available in the U.S.
500 ml bottle from The Cork ín Bottle. Rating: 7 3 7 4 14 = 3.5
4/25/2007: I decided to share my last bottle Stieglbock 2004 at the Junedale Beer Klub - April Beer Tasting (Maibocks)... Poured a hazy orange coloring with a lasting, creamy, ivory-colored head. The aroma was fruity with notes of apple cider and a slight oxidation note to it. The flavor was similar with apples, cider, some caramel, and some oxidized/cardboard. The finish was dry, but complimentary to the overall flavor. Medium body with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.
500 ml bottle. Rating: 7 3 7 4 15 = 3.6.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark golden with soft white head that has some staying power. Sweet roasted malt aroma along with spices. Taste of maple syrup, butter, smoke, and hop flowers. A very good bock in the Bavarian/Austrian style; much better than their pils.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good sized white head of fine dense bubbles. Creamy on top with light carbonation. Reduces slowly to almost nothing. Kind of a squash aroma with caramel, honey and sweet malts. Color is a bright orange. Medium bodied and sweet. Not too much though. More malts and honey. Little dry at the finish. Minimal hops presence and a little alcohol warming. An ok bock. A good drinking beer but nothing fancy.
