Commercial Description:
The original Stieglbock is a powerful finely hopped and traditional Bockbier – the Berman term for strong beer – indicating a bottom-fermenting brew from barley malt. Brewed in August, the fermentation process lasts three months which produces a golden color beer with taste and strengths varying from year to year. This beer is perfect for beer lovers who prefer bold types of beer. 16.5 Plato

Bottle 330ml.
Clear medium to dark yellow color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, bread, grain, toasted, old malt, wet old grass, sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090103]

Bottled, 2005 vintage. Poured medium-brighter golden with a dusting and a ring of white head. The aroma picked up chewy bready malts and a pinch of honey with grassy and herbal accents.. semi-sweet overall with bright highlights, showing only slight age. The flavor had dry caramel supporting honey and lesser bready malts at the core with alcohol-spiked herbal bitterness around.. finished spicy and warm. Medium-bodied and very dry on the palate.. a bit grainy.. OK flow across the palate. This had nothing particularly excellent in it, but it was easy to drink.

Bottle 504 ml - vintage 2005 (unfiltered)
Appearance: Thick ,hazed amber brew.
Nose: Malty , fruity rich nose . Sweetness popping trough , grainy ending.
Flavor/Palate : Medium full bodied. Soft textured thanks for being unfiltered. Caramel malty brew that well covered dry alcohol. Not overly complex but with traditional feel. Tasty with late alcohol burn.

My Bottom Line:
Obvious but simple cereal notes resound over faint herbal hoppiness in this clean and approachable Heller Bock.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the pale blond.
-This is a competent introduction to the style for the masses.
-There is some hop bitterness in the back, but it is rather discreet.
-The mouthfeel is lean and well carbonated.
-Although it’s well crafted, it does get boring after a while.

Bottle.

It is orange golden with a small, white and creamy head. The aroma has a light sweetness and notes of malt, caramel, citrus, and it is pretty inviting. The flavour has sweetness and notes of fruit, malt, caramel citrus and a dry finish. It is smooth and pleasant and it hides the alcohol well.
