COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The original Stieglbock is a powerful finely hopped and traditional Bockbier – the Berman term for strong beer – indicating a bottom-fermenting brew from barley malt. Brewed in August, the fermentation process lasts three months which produces a golden color beer with taste and strengths varying from year to year. This beer is perfect for beer lovers who prefer bold types of beer. 16.5 Plato

Dark yellow coloured and clear. Has a white head, mostly diminishing. Heavy, malty aroma, light bread. Light hoppy. Moderate to heavy sweet flavor. Moderate bitter. Oily texture. Soft carbonation.

This brew poured a small head of quickly disappearing bubbles that left a transparent uncarbonated light yellow orange colored body behind. I thought the color was odd for a bock and rated it thusly. It did have a mild caramel malt aroma and a smooth mouthfeel with a slight hop bite in its finish. Its flavor was a mild malt hop one.

Bottle from Utobeer. Clear golden, small head. Nice nutty aroma followed by more nutty flavours. Well-balanced hoppiness. A very good bock beer that is sufficiently dry and not too oily. Still with good nuttiness.

Bottle at the Bier Garden in Portsmouth on 4-30-05. Pours clouded bronze. Nose is sweet and malty with big caramel, light chocolate and ripened dark fruits. Taste is thinner than expected with obvious creamy maltiness blended with caramel, honey, chocolate, and dark fruits. Light pumpernickel bread notes throughout. Body is creamy and smooth. Minimal carbonation feel. Finishes with more caramel and malts along with sweet fruits and light chocolate. Nice!

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2006 Rerate Still a solid bock - just a tad less wow this time around. Original 3.9 Found this to be a good solid bock. Has a thick frothy head with great lacing. Aroma - a bit of olive oil oil and a bit of wort - makes a good combination - but on the verge of being cloying. Nice light orange appearance. Crisp, well defined flavor. Slightly salty with some sweet malty undertones. Probably the smoothest bock I have ever had. The 7% ABV is hidden well.

( 500ml bottle thanks to bu11zeye) Pours clear yellow with no head. Nose of honey and sweet malts. Taste is honey and caramel. Quite sweet but nice.

50cl bottle, with 2006 printed on the label - if that’s the date this was bottled, this has held up fairly well - hazy gold, fails to kick up much of a head - aroma of dough, diacetyl, fig, raisin, date, some light oxidation and acidity - medium sweet, creamy body - a little metallic/oxidized character, but otherwise the age doesn’t show (if it is that old, which I doubt) - a fairly tasty mixture of fig, date, honey - there is an odd bitterness that arrives late that doesn’t work too well - decent none-the-less.
