Commercial Description:
The original Stieglbock is a powerful finely hopped and traditional Bockbier – the Berman term for strong beer – indicating a bottom-fermenting brew from barley malt. Brewed in August, the fermentation process lasts three months which produces a golden color beer with taste and strengths varying from year to year. This beer is perfect for beer lovers who prefer bold types of beer. 16.5 Plato

My bottle, purchased fresh just before Christmas 2004, looked like the regular Stiegl bottle and read "Stiegl Columbus Original Bock." The abv was the same. It pours a golden color with a slight head that soon haloes the glass. It’s got a mild sweet malt aroma. Medium-bodied with caramel malt flavoring, it has a nice snappy hop counterbalance. Not a bad drink, but really not what I think of when I hear "bock."

The Rathskeller Wine & Beer Fest:A small sized head with fine sized bubbles. The body was clear with very little carbonation observed. The hue was pale yellow and the nose was somewhat earthy along with a hint of malt. The flavor was hoppy along with an aftertaste and the mouthfeel was tingly on my tongue and medium bodied. There was virtually no lacing with this beer.

Kind of blah, malty but not overly sweet. The hops are there in the nose and taste but are mostly dominated by malts. Amber/ruby in colour thin to medium head, medium body and somewhat bitter finish.

Bottle from State Line. Pours turbid dark straw/orangy with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma is pale malt, citrus, honey, mild vegetals. Tastes of pale malt, honey, hops, and some tannins. Not a repeater for me.

Golden amber pour with a tiny head that lasts only seconds. Carbonation doesn’t last any longer. Aroma is sweet floral fruit. Candy sugar flavor with some fruit and alcohol. Too sweet, and I like a sweeter beer. Perhaps this is a better cool weather beer. Surprised that it is rated at 3.3 and not lower.

Dark yellow coloured and clear. Has a white head, mostly diminishing. Heavy, malty aroma, light bread. Light hoppy. Moderate to heavy sweet flavor. Moderate bitter. Oily texture. Soft carbonation.

330ml green bottle from Meinl am Graben, Wien. Poured a fast fading white head. Clear golden body colour. Sweet fruity nose. Flavoured with pears, light hops and a touch of sweet malts. Hidden alcohol. Roundd mouthfeel and rather well bodied (03.12.2007).
