Pours a light yellow gold color. A bit hazy, though there’s a good amount of lees on the bottom of my bottle, so this is dependent on the pour. Relatively small white head. Lots of little bubbles. The aroma is a bit heavy on the somewhat medicinal myrrh flavor. The yeast might be contributing to that flavor, as well. It was quite pleasant initially, when the beer was colder, and the aroma was woodier, but as the beer warmed, the medicinal side became more prominent and started to push out the fruity peppercorn notes. The peppercorn provides a very nice fruity pepper flavor. There’s some pale malt in the background, but it gets overshadowed by the spicing. Nice pale malt sweetness in the taste. The spices kick in quickly. Again, I really like the fruity Szechuan peppercorn flavor, and the myrrh is nice but a bit too medicinal for my taste. That said, this is a beer that I’m really going back and forth on. I’m sort of splitting the difference with my scores, but I do very much appreciate the thought behind it. At any rate, the finish is dry and fairly bitter. There’s a bit of citrus kicking in at that point, as well. Nice mouthfeel. Carbonation is slightly low for a saison. Personally, I’d prefer things to be even lighter. Anyway, it’s another nice Stillwater beer and further shows Strumke’s thoughtful approach to the style.

Very good as a standalone saison -- plenty of heft, malt and yeast. A little hot for saison, however. The alcohol is rough, it detracts from the balance of the beer, and although I enjoyed the aromas and flavors of the beer very much, it left a little to be desired in terms of the soft touch that can make saison really rustic and great.

33cl bottle. Pours a very nice golden colour, a hint of cloudiness, clean white foam. Aroma is mostly lemony, peppery, very elegant. Taste is bittersweet, peppery again, with a nice balsamic note. Light body, medium carbnation and hidden alcohol presence. Strange and interesting one.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden/light amber color with a large fluffy white head. The aroma is farmhouse yeast, lemony citrus, white peppercorn, grass, floral with a good amount of sweetness. The flavor is herbal, peppercorns are more noticeable, yeast, toasted bread, light fruity notes with moderate sweetness. I like this one; quite a bit going on here.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark golden yellow with a huge white head. The combination of spices added to this ale makes it very complex and delicious. Very balanced and with a good hoppy finish.

Bottle. Pours with a hazed golden hued body with a massive white head. Great retention. Huge, funky belgian saison aromas, bretty, damp leaves, old books, sunflower seeds, floral, dry, sage herbal. Flavors are of candi sugar residuals, dry, sage, spicy, pepper, raw sugar, musty books. Extremely lively carbonation, dry, easy to drink. Complex yeast notes. Fizzy. Spicy, low mineral. Very effervescent and authentically belgian in feel.

330. Pours a cloudy and chunky medium amber with bright golden brown highlights. Enormous surging platinum blonde head that eventually settles back down to a thick layer of rocky cream. Bright sweet lemony peppercorn nose, really a nice combination. Some hard boiled egg yolk showing. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Caramel, lemons, and soft peppercorn notes on the mid palate, with a little egg yolk in the background. This beer is 100% giving me a craving for deviled eggs.

Not my cup of tea.

Bottle. Pours cloudy gold with white head. Nose and taste of peppercorn, farmhouse yeast, lemongrass, fresh lemon zest, orange peel and mild spicy hops. Medium body. Great balance. Finishes mostly spicy pepper corn and lemon zest.

hazy orange, murky with consistent white head. Husky nose, berries all over, bit of grain, very dry, pillowy. Berry up front, lemon and wheat mid before peppercorn and wheat win finish, sticky and thin.
