3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bartlebier (460) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - APR 15, 2013
375ml cork bottle - Pours an agreeable citrus hay gold, medium fizz. Somewhat unspectacular but natural tasting light, florally hopped ale with some funk, providing character. Nothing disagreeable about this, would like to taste again when less thirsty. Sampled this basically as a grain saison with subtle citrus aroma, a transatlantic cooperation that is tasty enough, but somehow loses character mid-way.

Pours bright gold with a thick white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, musty funk, sweet notes. Taste is slightly sweet, fruity and funky, finishes dry and slightly tart. Lots of carbonation. Really nice overall.

3/20/13. 375mL bottle from Grassroots. Hazed orange pour with a thick, creamy head that sticks and laces a ton. Faint maltiness in the aroma with fruity esters and a phenolic kick. Big fruity and phenolic flavor with bits of tangy citrus. Somewhat laid back by Stillwater?s standards, but tasty.

Bottle poured a deep golden color with a one finger white head that slowly fell back to a coating. Aroma has dusty grains, wet herbs, yeast, and some hops. Mouth feel is medium light and there is higher side carbonation. Flavor has grains, funky sharp hops, yeast, and some lingering bitterness.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 FlacoAlto (3450) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 10, 2013
A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a four finger thick, and rising, pale tan colored head that would have overflowed my glass if I didn’t choose to eat it instead. The beer is a metallic seeming gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright yellow gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of bright fruit and dried hay; specific notes of pear, floral apple, hibiscus, nutty pale malt, pale wheat cracker, and some melon like notes.
Effervescent, which pairs well with the light body, dry, which still can’t suppress the bright fruit notes, and quite complex, with a mélange of flavors, this beer is my idea of a Saison. The grain character has a nice, dried straw like character to it, a soft cracker like malt note, and this mixes with a light herbal character, perhaps a touch of lemon zest, or citrus character, and grassy hop notes. The yeast character contributes a soft clove character, a slight mustiness, some woody black pepper, a touch of ginger character.
This is quite nice, not the most complex Saison, but it definitely hits the spot.

Bottle.
Hazy yellow with a giant, frothy, staying, white head. Aroma has sweet wheat malts, some citrus, doughy. High carbonation, fine dry and somewhat oily (yet a bit thin) mouthfeel. Flavour has doughy malts, wheat bread, citrus, mild lactic notes. Soft white pepper and grassy bitterness. Okay.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - FEB 27, 2013
Corked bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels Hazy golden color with compact head. The aroma is definitively corky, with traces of vegetables. It’s smooth, dry, overcarbonated, with light malt flavor, spicy Belgian yeast, and too much feeling of vegetables; some cork too; correct bitterness. Unaesthetic.
