This deep amber hued ale takes it’s inspiration from Germany while still nodding to the Belgian farmhouse tradition. The base is comprised of German two-row, wheat, Cara-Munich, and roasted barley. Generously hopped with a blend of Perle, Spalt, and Hallertau Mittelfrüh and fermented with a rustic Belgian farmhouse ale yeast. These elements together provide a melange of earth and fruit aromas backed with hints of caramel with a dry clean finish.

A pint or so on tap at Dutch’s... Mostly clear red orange color, looks a bit darker in the glass, kind of brown. Thin off-white head. Few ropes of lace. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation, kind of crisp, with a slick finish. Caramel, lightly peppery malts, some mild dark fruitiness. Sort of toasty, and a little wheat creaminess. Lighter to moderate sweet taste, nice light to moderate bitterness. Good balance to the taste, lighter on the spiciness than most farmhouse ales. Good full malty body to it, but not too sweet. Some chocolate notes. Awesome autumn ale. A very nice choice to wash down my prosciutto sandwich. Perfectly balanced. Gets better as I go.

A well put together beer, but not really what I’m looking for in a saison. While the light funk, yeasty spiciness, fruity and slightly hoppy characterisitics of the aroma and flavor were nice, the beers faults were equal to it’s strengths. Too much carbonation (about half the time in Stillwater brews) and replaces the sun-shiney aspect of the saisons i really like with a little dustiness. Still ok, but not at the pricepoint. It’s a 94/97 on RB, so i’m kind of in the minority. Better on tap, 3.5to 3.1."

On tap at Barrels & Bottles. Amber, reddish and clear appearance with a beige head. Aroma of fruity esters, light yeast, earthy hops, floral notes, light caramel/toffee and dark fruits. Similar flavor, malty and fruity with medium sweetness and light bitterness. Medium to full body, pretty good overall.

[5734-20130823] 1pt9.4floz bottle. Toasted dusty bread aroma has a 12-grain note. Slightly hazy, brown amber body with a medium-lasting off-white head. Toasted grainy yeast flavour has a metallic quality. Medium body. Interesting to sample. (7/3/7-/3/13) 3.3

Clear dark Cola brown. Broken up whiteish head. Nose is cherry and wet leaves so seasonal. Gummy peppery vibe. Earthy and Soily, clean nuttiness through and though. Carbonation was neat and uncompromising. Decent rustic bitterness. Earthy and farmyard linger - does well within what it said on the tin.

Bottle. Excellent nose is spicy and earthy with jam, strong orange peel, and strong phenolic character, some wheat. Pours hazy dirty brown with amber highlights and strong carbonation, sudsy and noisy tan head. Taste is earthy and lightly chocolaty, some roast and even scorched character way toward the back, gummy maltiness with light wood, much more spice. Earthy hops, Weizen character, very faint mint. Light bitterness and semi-sweet, not really tart. Soft yet crisp medium-full body. Refreshing and rustic, indeed, no big alcohol at all. Very pleasant blend of flavors, has sort of a "lagered Dunkelweizen" profile.
