COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This deep amber hued ale takes it’s inspiration from Germany while still nodding to the Belgian farmhouse tradition. The base is comprised of German two-row, wheat, Cara-Munich, and roasted barley. Generously hopped with a blend of Perle, Spalt, and Hallertau Mittelfrüh and fermented with a rustic Belgian farmhouse ale yeast. These elements together provide a melange of earth and fruit aromas backed with hints of caramel with a dry clean finish.

Bottle shared at my 30:th birthday tasting on May 5 (30 år av Surt). Courtesy of rono. Pours hazy brownish golden with a big creamy white head that is rather slow to dissipate but doesn’t leave much trace. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and tiny sour with dark bread, bread spices, lemon juice, lemon zest, plums and overripe mango. Mouthfeel is tiny dry, tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and tiny tart with orange zest, dark bread and spices.

750mL bottle from Leukens Dunedin. Pours a hazy caramel brown with an off-white head. Nose is all manner of fruit- apple, some raisin, grapes, dates, some slight cocoa, bananas, and berries. Flavor is a melange of flavors- a hint of earth, cocoa, esters, earthy berries, plums, overripe bananas, and other fruity esters. Finish is ephemerally fruity then it fades. Interesting saison overall.

Bottle from Blue Dog on my V-Day lunch. Poured a mostly clear, well untill the end of the bottle, deep honey amber with an average sized fizzy off white head. Aroma has some classic saison spicey and pepperyness but then that is overpowered by a big crusty bread aroma from the darker malts. The medium body had strong fizzy carbonation and an average duration on the aftertaste. The flavor is much like the aroma where there is some nice saison spiceyness & pepper funk that is quickly overshadowed by a bland and ordinary crustry and grainy bread notes. Not impressed by this one.

750 ml bottle; clear, light brown with intense carbonation and eggy light tan head billowing high in the glass; carbonation is an adventure with SW so far; fizzy chocolate wheat, a slight metallic note, caramel and some stale fruit; has a rawness to it on first sip crazy dry finish like some f the other beers; stale Belgian sugar, dried fruit and chalky malt; light mouthfeel with a little creamy and nutty roast; kind of interesting but wondering what it would be like with a little less carbonation; very dry and attenuated like their others and that again helps b/c there is no cloying sweetness or anything like that
