Can. Black pour with a medium, foamy tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, toasted grains, hints of cocoa and dark chocolate. Taste is big roasted malt, burnt caramel, coffee notes, dark chocolate and soft cocoa. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more roasted malt, chocolate, coffee notes, caramel and light cocoa.

Shaker pint draft at Barley’s Brewhaus in Leawood, Kansas. The pour is black, with a tight one inch tan head. The head falls slowly with nice lacing. The aroma is clean and fresh Schwarzbier, roast and toast cereal grain malt, along with a clean earthiness. The taste is a balance between the roast notes of the malt, along with the clean earth which dries out the after taste nicely. The palate is light bodied, active carbonation and the roast mineral dry finish. Very drinkable. Well made version of a style I like quite a bit.

Draught at Søernes Ølbar. Black colored with a medium sized beige head. Light roasted aroma of caramel, licorice and hops with notes of bread. Light roasted flavor of caramel and berries with notes of hops. Light roasted finish

Can courtesy of...Trent! I pour and I get 1/2 tannish foam, 1/2 pitch black liquid. The foam is shrinking and leaving some lacing behind. The smell is really bitter. Dark chocolate and or cocoa with some pine would be my guess. Cocoa up front that has some milk like qualities, the bitterness is more tame here than in the smell. I still get hints of pine but more so from roasted cocoa? Ha, that sounds funny. On the light side of medium bodied, lively carbonation. This is okay to my palate.

Fra fad, Søernes Ølbar. Uigennemsigtig brunsort sag, stort set uden skum. Let let bretty. Brunt blødt brød. Noter af brun sukker, men øllen er tør i munden. Og let, næsten vandig. Smooth med en let prikkende finish. Ok

Can from The Scratch 210815. Looks like a stout but tastes like a black IPA. Easy to drink and goes down smooth

Can. Artwork is great. Pours charcoal with thick dark tan froth on top. Smells of faintly burnt molassas: a little sweet, a little bitter. Taste mildly smokey in the malt, not too sweet or bitter, a dark beer you could easily have a session on.

Can. Light roast malt nose, some coffee and light chocolate. Dark brown color, with a thick rocky head. Thin roastiness, a bit of chocolate, some rich dark fruit. After it warms up, it develops more complexity. A touch of wine-like flavors, too. Thin-medium body.

Aroma typical for the style...light roasted coffee, caramel, lightly dusty. Flavor is at first bright and complex (coffee, roasted malt and chocolate, tofee, caramel) but quickly warms to be a little lesser and a little watery to boot. Started off good, finished weak. Overall not bad, but not for $4."
