3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Advent has caught up. Day 7. Looks like a brown ale with nice foam. Aroma is definitely Belgian, sour with strong dark malt scent. Nice smooth chocolatey malt flavour. Sour mash edge. Smooth and tasty.

12oz brown bottle from Craft Beer Advent Calendar. Very dark brown in the glass, a thin tan ring of foam on top. Nose has chocolate and roast with some spices. In the mouth the beer has notes of earth, dark chocolate, dry roasted malt and background spices. Aftertaste mixes earth, chocolate and roasted notes, some bitterness and herb and spice. The body is medium, carbonation is moderate. A nice dark Belgian spice ale, quite smooth for it’s strength.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2013 THX! for the bottle. 355 ml. bottle @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Great label as always with these guys. Pours very dark brown, almost touch purple with a tanned head. Nose is a bit too much, lots of soy sauce mixed with prunes, sweet dark fruits, plenty of liquorish, brambleberries. Taste is soy sauce mixed with prunes & brambleberries, plenty of liquorish, brown sugar, teriyaki sauce, bitter herbs, sticky, syrupy feel, somewhat herbal. Def. way more a Belgian Strong Ale than a Belgian Ale, a very odd take on the style, too much of these odd combo’s & flavours, okay but not very impressive & very expensive. I expected more from Stillwater here, not really getting here why the score is so high. Pretty hard to finish a bottle of.

Very unexpected taste profile on this. Malty and slightly fruity. Don't really get the traditional farmhouse funkiness with this one. Wasn't bothered by that but have a little trouble understanding this as a farmhouse ale. Still very tasty.
