4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/5/2013. Pours lightly cloudy nearly opaque dark brown color with a 3 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt, pear, apple, toast, peppercorn, clove, herbal, floral, grass, dark bread, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, caramel, toast, pear, apple, peppercorn, clove, herbal, floral, grass, dark bread, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, roast, caramel, toast, pear, apple, peppercorn, clove, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/roasted malt flavors; with a nice crisp malt/yeast flavor balance with zero cloying after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately prickly, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent dark saison. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 mL bottle. Ruby brown - beautiful colour - with just a thin ring of head. Very Belgian (dark) aroma, with chocolate and yeast. The flavour is less distinctive, and isn’t immediately identifiable as a saison. Not dry enough, no funk. It’s good, though. Schwarzbier with Belgian yeast.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. I really dug this. Loads of plum and date and a nice roasty characteristic throughout where it sort of finished a little ashy and burnt which I enjoyed. Still had that familiar farmhouse and yeasty core but balanced nicely by the slightly heavier notes. Great stuff

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
355ml bottle. Pours a beautiful very dark red with a minimal off white head. Aroma is very light with some roastiness, dark fruits, some yeasty acidity, light metallic note. Taste is similar with roasted notes more evident. Dry finish, mild bitterness, nice chocolate aftertaste. Medium body, medium carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased at Surdyk’s. Consumed in snifter glass. Aroma carries a strong roasted malt characteristic and a Belgian yeast quality to it. Appearance is definitely dark...brown/blackish with a tan head. Taste feels a little bit like a black IPA with a little bit less bitterness. The roasted notes from the aroma carry through the taste with an underlying earthiness. Borders on the darker Belgian dubbels I’ve tried in the past with less of an emphasis on sweetness. Coffee and dark chocolate come to mind. It’s got a dry mouthfeel that I actually kind of enjoy right now. Dark fruits are in the equation as well. Overall, a very solid beer. I would seek it out again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark amber color with big tan head. Smells very Belgian, yeasty, malty, bananas, bread, dark malts. Taste goes back and forth between a blonde belgian ale and dark malts. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice, but it has a weird switch between dark malts and fresh belgian banana yeast feeling.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. Cleardark brown-black with an off-white ring. Faint smoky aroma, malty and a little peppery. Mildly bitter, slightly dry and roasty. Mild fizz, medium body, roasty, sunflower seeds finish. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home. Pretty decent, but I live in a beer town so tend to get spoiled. Dark, rich imposing pour. Definitely Belgian notes and sweetness somewhat lingering. Plums, raisins- intensely fruity. More roast than I think works in a saison. Somewhat boozy. Decent, but not blown away.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Saw Farmhouse and assumed it would be lighter. The dark appearance belies any expectations I had. More fruity and caramelly than the typical farmhouse and a nice, crisp dryness at the end.
