COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

’and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.’ –Nietzsche

Note: Formerly brewed at Dog, now at Two Roads.

On tap at Gingerman in Norwalk. Deep dark reddish copper in color with an off white head. Nice toasty malty aroma. Flavor is dark fruity, and roasty. Full bodied. Spicy peppery. Very nice beer. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, fizzy and quickly dissipating carbonation with an aroma of copper & cloves. Flavor is light leathery malt, more hints of clove and floral spice with a slightly bittersweet aftertaste. Would probably pick up again at $10/4-pack

Bottle at Dig. Almost black, with the most beautiful garnet shades. Lace. Nose of chocolate, grass, orange, honey. Complex though not completely harmonious. Dry, complex and interesting flavor, much in the "black saison" mode. Good.

Thin whispy white head and a dark brown almost black pour. Very light aromas, a little smokey, chocolate and raisin bread. Upfront juicy fruits, raisins, plum and currant, medium feel with toasty bread malts. A little sourness and balsamic, but the fruit really balance this out. The finish is slightly herbal and bitter, oak, juicy and smokey flavours. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

maekchu (1777) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 20, 2014
Bottle at The Stillwater event at Dig Beer Bar. Dirty dark fruit nose, with esters and some funk. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Nice melange of dark fruits and sweetness / a bit of rude fermented dates / trickles of chocolate with some sourness. Medium body. Very pleasant and fun. The flavors are mildly defined and sneak through one by one.

Bottle at the Dig Bar Stillwater Event. The brewer himself foudn it hard to categorize this beer but I’d say it is a blend of a robust porter & a saison. It pours a beautiful clear ruby brown. The aroma is nutty & mild at first but over time grows to become more pronounced. Medium bodied, chocolate, nuts and wine notes are present in the taste. This is a subtle beer that like the other Stillwater beers really open up & evolve as they warm up. One of my favorites of the night.

Bue à la pression. Belle couleur brun foncé. Malts, caramel et café sont prédominants. Équilibrée et assez forte. Finale persistante.

Pours really dark with lots of sediment. Very mild aroma but a nice smooth taste. Really good.

From tap. Very dark in glass. Nose is dark fruit, tobacco, and English muffin. Taste is similar to a brown ale. Cracker jack, raisons, and some tartness.

Pour from a 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-9-14. Tart aroma features scents of cherry, tobacco, mint, and roasted malt. The smell could stand to be stronger and more complex. Pours dark brown with an amber/copper/red hue. Small amount of short-lasting beige head. I wish the head were better. Looks almost like a porter. Tastes like a brown ale. Pumpernickel bagel, toast, and toffee flavors. Slightly mineral-y. Tart and slightly sour in the finish. Simple but pleasant. Roasted malt dry aftertaste. Medium body. Reasonably easy to drink. Unremarkable and unmemorable palate effects. Overall, pleasant enough but totally forgettable.

Tap at Republic, sold as a saison, derp. I’m getting a ton of heavy raisin flavor here, which maybe is okay given the belgian-ness of it, i don’t think its dry and definitely not bitter. earthy is a good way to describe it. and sweet. sweet dirt. yeah.
