COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

’and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.’ –Nietzsche

Note: Formerly brewed at Dog, now at Two Roads.

Dark brown hue, this beer isn’t like any farmhouse ale that I’ve every had. Belgium yeast flavors & aroma, it almost seemed like a Belgium stout to me. Mildly hopped. This was a decent beer, but for the 10 bucks I paid (750ml), it should be better than that.

"Had this once before, apparently never got the score down. Dark translucent brown. Nice herbal malty aroma. Dry roasted finish with a little dark fruit, spice, malt and earthy hops. Lightish in body, but quite complex. Nice brew."

Butelka Barwa ciemnego brązu, pod światło rubinu. Piana niska, utrzymuje się dziurawy kożuch. Piwo tajemnica. Są nuty zbożowe, śliwka, czekolada, owoce, ciasteczka, wanilia, ale prawdziwą robotę czynią dodatki nieznane. Rewelacyjny bukiet jako całość, a nie pojedyncze smaczki.

355ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo.08-09-2014.
In short: sour dark ale.
Pours dark copper with nice tan head. Short head retention, some lacing. Caramel, spicy, sour aromas. Medium body, average carbonation, some crispy texture. Taste is caramel, fruity, sweet, subtle sour. Ends dry. Lot of flavours and not so well integrated.

Dark brown, sienna pour with a garnet glassiness to it. Strange nose offers high cacao dark chocolate and banana, with brittle mineral and chlorine coolant. There’s a sludgy dairy and soy sweetness, which when confronted with the fecal funk that is always elusively present, becomes rather gross. This is more of a curiosity than a dominant sensation. Black malt is obtrusive here. Lingering in the margins are some black spices, mostly anise.

The brusque flavor has that black malt acridity, but it’s reined in. A mild herbal hop presence enters quietly and elegantly, to challenge the soy and dairy dominant weirdo yeast flavors. The softer malts here tend to present a timid, oily nuttiness that blends well with the same distant spiciness that livened up the nose. As it adapts, the fecal notes and protein sweetness are fading, and the spice and herb qualities are waking up.

Fairly punchy palate with good snapping carb. Not dry enough. The finish offers a blend of blueberry, dark spice, basic dark sugar malt. This offering gives more for weirdness than any other single quality; throughout, the tinny mineral salinity, the fecal funk, and the peculiar protein sweetness are undeniably distracting. Still, the shape shifting is fun and trippy.

BTLD 01/21/14. Nose is sweet and beautifully malty with earth and caramel, light chocolate, wheat, nice yeast character. Pours deep, dark brown with a rocky tan head. Taste is semi-sweet and minerally, esters and wheat, Belgian yeast character, spicy/spiced, very light phenolic component under light but clean bitterness. Jammy light cherry and faint stone fruit. Smooth medium-full body, a touch slimy in feel, with well-integrated alcohol and very light roast. Doesn’t fit any style guideline, for sure, sort of a Dunkelweizen/Saison/Dubbel mashup with productive Belgian yeast.

Nice interesting beer. Pours a cola brown. Aroma has a Belgian profile but also hints of chocolate, molasses, dark fruits. Taste also is a departure off a Belgian backing….more roasted almost smoky malts and aforementioned flavors. Finishes bitter and slightly tart. Medium mouthfeel. All around cool beer. Go Nietzsche.

Bottle. Pours black with off-white head. Aroma is roasty, smoky. Has a medium body, a bit of tobacco, tad smoky, chocolate. Okay.

4 pack. Honestly, I thought this was Atwater brewery until I couldn’t find the beer in the database. This is a nice, dark Belgian. Not a heavy quad type, but more of a dark saison. I don’t detect funk, but clearly Belgian yeast with a thin powdering of cocoa on top. More spice than fruit, and no dark fruits. Better not to let it warm too much.

Pours dark brown, slight deep red hues at the edges, finger tan, thick head, good amount of thin lacing. Aroma roasty, phenolic esters, mostly clove, bit of tropical fruit, mostly pineapple, slight fresh hay, and a bit of spice. Taste slight bitter, earthy, roasty, tropical fruit, over ripe pineapple, a bit of chocolate, phenolic esters mostly bubblegum, spice almost not detectable, a bit of dark, almost burnt sugar on the finish. Mouthfeel a bit towards full body, medium-high carbonation, very creamy and smooth, finish mostly balanced, a bit on the dry side. Overall interesting, flavor a bit over complex, but definetly tasty, not the most drinkable.
