3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown to black pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roast, cereal, chocolate, fruity esters peanuts, and light yeasty spice. Flavor is more fruity and spicy Belgian yeast notes, bitter citrus, light roast, cereal, a hint of nuttiness and light grass. Light to medium body with a light, blanketing and fairly soft carbonation. Good stuff, strange, but good, maybe a bit on the too boozy side. Might be a good pairing with some nice, tangy, spicy, BBQ pork.

Rating #812 - December 8, 2013 - Beer #7 in the Craft BeerAdvent Calendar - Enchanting earthy brown-black pour with a bubbly offwhite head from this bottle, 7.4%. Nose is earth, yeast, clove, toffee, spice. Palate is delicate sourness from the yeast, mild soft fruits, raisins. Earthy hops and roast malt bitterness. medium alcohol warmth, leading to a dry, bitter, and spicy finish. Superbly done, and easily the best of the Calendar so far.

12oz bottle. Pretty mellow but deep flavor. It pours black/red with a nice light brown head. Very yummo. I really hope my store will carry it. Definitely check this one out.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is an old bottle from Dog Brewing.
Aroma has a nice maltiness with chocolate, roast, toasted bread and dark melanoidins. Some lighter caramel and toffee notes. Light fruitiness of plums and prunes. Slight peppery phenolic note.
Pours dark brown with a moderately thick tan head that steadily recedes to the edges where it lingers. Small legs and moderate lacing.
Flavor has a light sweetness with a moderate roast character. Some light chocolate notes with medium light toasted bread and dark melanoidins. Some fig, plum and prune notes with a medium light peppery phenolic note. Medium bitterness. Light ash and leather note.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium full carbonation. Light but noticeable astringency with medium light alcohol warmth.
Overall an enjoyable roasty farmhouse ale that doesn’t quite rise to the level of being a stout and reminds me more of a farmhouse porter. Some nice phenolic and dark fruit notes compliment the malt character. Light sweetness also helps keep this from being too astringent.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20
BeerAdvent 2013 Day Seven. Pours dark brown without much head. Nose is pepper, dark fruit. Flavour is dark fruit, spicy malt, treacle, chalk, wood, finish is woody chalky and salty. The finish makes this kind of hard to drink, tastes like an English brewer made a dubbel then sold it on cask. Interesting but not particularly enjoyable.

Advent Calendar. I was a bit let down by this one - maybe it was the fish for dinner? Looks and smells great, but the taste was a bit overly musty and sour for my liking. Would try again with a clean palate.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A roast sweet smell with hints of caramel, this poured nice an dark with a good head that laced well and did not dissipate quickly. A nice fizz up front that did not overwhelm, I could taste the roast and the sweetness. A wonderfully balanced beer that had a pleasant lingering aftertaste.

2.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Craft advent calendar day seven. Pours really nice with a minimal head, beautiful hues. Smells like my old gym socks, which is strange because it was really a decent beer. The higher alcohol content didn’t add much though.
