3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown to black pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roast, cereal, chocolate, fruity esters peanuts, and light yeasty spice. Flavor is more fruity and spicy Belgian yeast notes, bitter citrus, light roast, cereal, a hint of nuttiness and light grass. Light to medium body with a light, blanketing and fairly soft carbonation. Good stuff, strange, but good, maybe a bit on the too boozy side. Might be a good pairing with some nice, tangy, spicy, BBQ pork.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at The Stillwater event at Dig Beer Bar. Dirty dark fruit nose, with esters and some funk. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Nice melange of dark fruits and sweetness / a bit of rude fermented dates / trickles of chocolate with some sourness. Medium body. Very pleasant and fun. The flavors are mildly defined and sneak through one by one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at the Dig Bar Stillwater Event. The brewer himself foudn it hard to categorize this beer but I’d say it is a blend of a robust porter & a saison. It pours a beautiful clear ruby brown. The aroma is nutty & mild at first but over time grows to become more pronounced. Medium bodied, chocolate, nuts and wine notes are present in the taste. This is a subtle beer that like the other Stillwater beers really open up & evolve as they warm up. One of my favorites of the night.

Pour from a 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-9-14. Tart aroma features scents of cherry, tobacco, mint, and roasted malt. The smell could stand to be stronger and more complex. Pours dark brown with an amber/copper/red hue. Small amount of short-lasting beige head. I wish the head were better. Looks almost like a porter. Tastes like a brown ale. Pumpernickel bagel, toast, and toffee flavors. Slightly mineral-y. Tart and slightly sour in the finish. Simple but pleasant. Roasted malt dry aftertaste. Medium body. Reasonably easy to drink. Unremarkable and unmemorable palate effects. Overall, pleasant enough but totally forgettable.

Tap at Republic, sold as a saison, derp. I’m getting a ton of heavy raisin flavor here, which maybe is okay given the belgian-ness of it, i don’t think its dry and definitely not bitter. earthy is a good way to describe it. and sweet. sweet dirt. yeah.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. Brown with small head. Darker and far maltier than I was expecting for a farmhouse. Seems like a light bodied brown ale with just a touch of yeasty funk. Slightly above average. Would like more funk.

"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?"

Draft at the Sunset Grill and Tap in Allston, MA. Snifter. Dark brown, opaque pour with a one finger tan head. Snifter, Interesting aroma of Belgian yeasts, peat, earth, cocoa, and dark sugars. Taste is similar with Belgian yeasts, dark sugars, some hop resins, and roasted malts. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Finish is bitter and roasted malts. Odd style but not bad.
