COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

’and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.’ –Nietzsche

Note: Formerly brewed at Dog, now at Two Roads.

stillwater existent. by recommendation. little head dissipates quitckly. dirty brown earthy color, opaque. pretty muted smell at this temperature, a bit musty, somewhat bland flavor. not really a traditional farmhouse or saison by any means. sort of reminds me of a bland abbey dubbel. not really much hops either. mostly watery with a little bit of bitterness on the back end. i just realized this pretty much reminds of a brown ale, which explains why i find it inordinately boring.

12oz bottle shared by Pizz5116 after work (Christmas Squad beers round 2). Poured a dark brown color with a small foamy tan head. Aroma of mainly belgian yeast and dark malts. Taste mimics the nose, with more pronounced belgian bubble gum/banana notes, and roasted coffee in the finish.

[6312-20140509] Bottle. Mild yeasty grains aroma. Clear, dark ruby red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Grainy bread flavour has a light boozy finish. Medium body. Good, simple. (6/3/7/3/13) 3.2

355ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika. The noisy pour reveals a clear dark brown coloured body. Dissipating fawn-coloured head, fragile lacing. Aroma of dark bread alongside hints of liquorice and dark fruits. Blended flavour profile of dark malts, chocolate and caramel, herbs, and dark fruits, mild anise to it. Roasted bitter finish. Fine bodied. Perfect nightcap (hotel room, Oslo 09.12.2014).

Must admit...I did not care too much for this one. Pours a cola brown, with a dense head that diminishes to a lacing that remains until the end. Has a yeast smell familiar with the style. A bit of a candy hint to it. Bit of a clove. Tastes of dark fruit, with a bit of spice. The finish is lightly bitter, but also a sourness. Not really a fan of the sourness. Seems a bit aggressive on the carbonation, also. A decent beer if it wasn’t for the carbonation and sourness.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. A quite sweet brown ale with a twist of belgian yeast.

Pours dark brown with a fading off-white to tan head. Nose is roasted, smoked malt, ripe, dark fruit, yeast and spice. Taste is moderate to heavy sweet, light bitter, spicy with creamy texture.

330ml bottle served in a flute glass. A: Pours a dark brown color forming a huge and aired bubbled beige head. Great retention and lots of soapy and lingering lacings left in the glass S: Quite peculiar in the nose. Sweet, fruity and citrus followed by some roasted malts followed by some sort of weird mix of tropical fruits (like watermelon and pineapple) and spices T: Slightly sweet taste. Roasted malts. Tropical fruits and spices. Slightly sour. Medium bitterness M: Medium body and carbonation. Watermelon aftertaste O: Great drinkability. Peculiar and interesting beer [ BA Review @ 8/3/2014 ]

Pours a thin head on a dark red colored body. The aroma has lots of caramel, chocolate, milk and roasted malt. Nicely complex. The taste roasted malt sweetness with a bitter lemon back-note, some chocolate, finishes with a little sweet touch. The texture is smooth with good fizz. Enjoyable and different.
