Human history is filled with myths and legends that shape and define our culture. Rituals, celebrations, gatherings.. whatever. One thing that’s for sure, is we enjoy a proper shindig. So let’s get the stories flowing and share a little ’Folklore’. A bracingly deep ale, built dark and rich with an elegantly lean body, accompanied by heady aromas of Belgian yeast, earthy hops and gently kissed by a wisp of smoke.

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Black color, ok offwhite foam. Roasted aromas, licorice, malt, coffee & choclate: medium aroma intensity. Medium/ full body & high complexity. Some immediate sweetness, followed by solid bitterness- balances well. Very enjoyable

Bottle. Dark brown with a quickly dissipating light brown head. Aroma of dark malts, yeast, fruitcake, alcohol, brandy. Comes across as a rather fruity imperial stout in the taste. Sweet initially, a little tart, liquorice. Roasty aftertaste. Medium body with lively carbonation.

Pitch black with only a thin off white head. Smokey and yeasty, yet sweet almost bubble gum aroma, passion fruit and citrus. Salted caramel and chocolate, burnt toast and cigars, a good dash of citrus and berries. A cherry like sourness and pine resins. The finish is roasted malt and charcoal bitterness, a good hit of coffee and chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 5-27-14. Labeled as bottled on 01/02/14. Sweet, roasty aroma features scents of brown sugar, caramel, chocolate muffin, other baked goods, and a touch of cigarette tobacco. Quite pleasant smell. Pours a very dark brown with a small amount of taupe head. Opaque liquid. Pleasant taste is consistent with the aroma except with a greater role for the roasted and tarry elements and a lesser role for the sweet elements. Cigarette tobacco and cream flavors. Dry, roasted malt aftertaste (as opposed to a dry, hoppy aftertaste). Medium body. Smooth, oily, and lively in a good palate. Overall, Stillwater Artisinal Folklore is a nice stout. It does not taste as strong as I expected given the relatively high ABV. It is solid and pleasant but nothing special.

Idiosynkrasie (3633) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - MAY 26, 2014
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 750ml bottle. Jet black colour with fulgurous expansionary, average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately, dark malty aroma of room-filling intensity, hints of its grainy origin, a vinous touch of grapes, chocolate, cocoa, remnants of yeast activity. Taste is yeasty, slightly vinous, slightly grainy, moderately sweet, chocolately dark malty, dark chocolate, husky overtones,; while developing, more and more dry and roasty dark malty notes shine through. Sticky palate, oily texture; too lively carbonation really disturbes the enjoyment of flavours deserving ruminant consumption.
