3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Beermongers. Colour....basic black with a thick off white head. Nose...quite Belgian-y! There’s also orchard fruits and yeasty bits. Palate...tangy and again, Belgian-y! Rather sweet with chicory, Lindt sweet dark chocolate, fig paste and dark raisins, plums and anise. Certainly a stout and certainly....well...,Belgian-y!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle, from Party Source. Bottled 10/08/13. Shared with Taylor. Clear very dark brown / red color, near-black. Minimal off-white head, dots of lace. Medium to bigger body. Lightly slick body. Lighter, crisp carbonation. Nose has a surprising amount of dark fruit, light spice. From the smell it’s kind of like a foreign stout, or belgian style stout... But the taste is surprisingly tart. Duh, should have expected Stillwater to pull something like this. Tart taste, light sour, kind of spicy. Moderate bitter, some dark chocolate. Not too chewy of a texture, a little thin. Solid, interesting stout. Fruity and tart, but still nice, roasty, and robust. Interesting, yeah, but right now I think I’d have preferred a more traditional, full-bodied stout. Hint of licorice.. As far as sour stouts go, this one might be missing something

Pours really dark but is really lacking aroma. Slightly sour but has a really nice stout taste. Very good!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a fine tan head. Fair lacing.
Nose is roasty, smoky, and a little tart.
Roasty malt. Coffee, cocoa, Belgiany yeast. A little tang to the finish. Some smoky notes.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque, nearly black pour. Vanishing mocha head. Aroma of smoky Belgian yeast. A more complex flavor than anticipated based on the nose. Roasted, charred, a little bitter. Some dark fruit notes with buried caramel undertones. Pretty well balanced. Slick and flat with a long, dry finish. Lingering alcohol. Pretty solid Stillwater offering.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a very interesting, fairly complex brew from Stillwater. The pour is black in color with a thick tan head. A firm layer sticks for some lacing. My first impression is that there’s a lot going on based on the aroma. Baker’s chocolate is followed by raisin bread, ash, leather, and an earthy character. The flavor seems centered around dark fruit, mocha, and charred malty notes. A bit smokey throughout. Molasses, dates, yeast, and earth adds plenty of depth. The carbonation is very active. There’s some alcohol creeping in there but it’s not hard to drink. The body doesn’t seem all that thick or full, but not thin. I don’t see this style as Stillwater’s best (give me their Saison stuff) but it’s a good and very interesting beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Láhev 750 ml. Aroma má krásný nádech žlutého melounu a karamelu.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2013 This bottle, from Malt and Vine, foams slowly upon opening and continues foaming slowly out of the bottle for an hour or so. The beer pours deep black with a meringue head that you could cut with knife and fork. plenty of lacing down the side of the glass. Roasty nose struggling with sour grassy aromas. Flavor is pretty sweet-and-sour, plenty of molasses bread, very Stillwater yeast, wisps of smoke in the tail. Earthy. Baking chocolate. Hints of black cherry. Interesting, and very complex compared to the Dragonstooth stout I have open at the same time - but it doesn’t come together into harmony.

seemed like a gword type stout to me! that bubble gum sweetness with some rye alcohol. i suppose richer body with some coffee and cocoa. i guess one could detect that a yeasty dimension was present. good stout.
